Consensus

our Verdict

The Modway Articulate Ergonomic Chair is a well-built, ergonomic alternative that offers a wide range of adjustments for its entry-level price. Elements such as the armrest height (adjustable by 2.8”), seat tilt, seat height (adjustable by 4”), backrest, and tilt tensions are easy to configure, and with a weight capacity of 331 lbs, the chair remains a great pick even for heavy-set individuals.

However, not much thought is given to back support, save for the height-adjustable curve on its backrest. While the mesh backrest offers excellent breathability and qualifies the chair’s use for extended sitting sessions, the armrests are only height adjustable and may cause issues for some. The chair also misses out on a headrest, but if this is a compromise you cannot make, then check out our BestOffice Ergonomic High Back Office Chair review.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Good ergonomics and adjustability
    • The Modway Articulate Ergonomic is a comfortable office chair that offers good adjustability. It can recline up to 120°, and its seat height can be configured between 17 and 21”.

    • However, its armrests are only height adjustable, with a 2.8” range, which is lower than the average 4” range of adjustment found on more high-end chairs.

  • Adjustable lumbar support
    • There’s a curve on the Modway Articulate’s backrest that can be moved up or down by 4” for back support, which is typical for most chairs in its price range.

  • Great stability
    • The Modway Articulate is a sturdy chair designed to support individuals weighing up to 331 lbs. It also has a 5-point base for good stability.

Reason to Avoid

  • Build quality issues
    • Previous users have reported issues such as faulty tilt mechanisms and a sagging back mesh.

The Modway Articulate Ergonomic Chair doesn’t have a footrest, but the Modway Calibrate Mesh Drafting Chair does. Also worth considering is that the Modway Calibrate is only available in black or gray, while the Modway Articulate offers six color options to choose from. In terms of adjustability, the Modway Ergonomic Chair allows for seat height adjustments of up to 4”, which is much less than the Modway Drafting Chair, which has a lift height of up to 7.5”.

The armrests on the Modway Articulate Ergonomic Chair can only be moved up or down for adjustment, while those on the Mavix M7 can be moved up, down, in, out, or even angled left and right. Their lumbar support systems on the Modway Articulate are height adjustable, while the one on the M7 is dynamic, as it adjusts automatically following the posture of the seated individual. Here’s our Mavix M7 review to see what else the M7 has to offer, but if you’re not interested in mesh back chairs, our MCQ ergonomic review might be worth looking into.

While the Modway Articulate Ergonomic Chair doesn’t ship with a headrest, owners can opt to include one on the ErgoCentric tCentric Hybrid Ergonomic Chair. However, while the Modway Chair’s lumbar support can be moved up or down by about 4”, that of the tCentric Hybrid can be adjusted by 5”. Finally, the armrests on the tCentric Hybrid are a lot more adjustable than those on the Modway Articulate, so if you’re interested in the former, see what they have to offer in our Ergocentric tCentric Hybrid Ergonomic Chair review.
