Coming in at #9 on our best LG air conditioner list, the LG LW8016HR are simple-but-efficient air conditioners that offer both cooling & heating capabilities. Although they lack advanced features like wifi control, these LG air conditioners still manage to offer 7,500 BTU performance at around 52dB, making them a solid choice if you’re looking for a new window unit.

Why We Like It – LG LW8016 HR

The LG LW8016 HR is a 7,500 BTU window air conditioner that also can be used as a heater during the winter months.

Pros
  • Cools Up To 320 Sq Ft (Heats Up To 220 Sq Ft)
  • Multiple Fan Speeds With Direction-Adjustable Air Flow For Maximum Cooling Power
  • Includes A Remote Control
Cons
  • No Wi Fi Control Capabilities
  • Only Has High & Low Fan Speeds

Performance

This window mounted unit is capable of both heating and cooling a room. The AC itself is rated at 7,500 BTU, which will be effective for cooling areas up to 320 sq. feet (if you’re trying to cool larger spaces up to 1,000 sq. ft., consider the powerful LG LW1816ER instead). The supplemental heat function isn’t quite as efficient and is only capable of heating areas of 220 sq. feet. However, the heating component is rated much lower, at only 3,850 BTU.

Energy Efficiency

It’s not expensive to run this air conditioner. The LW8016HR is fairly conservative when it comes to energy efficiency, earning an Energy Star EER rating of 11.0. This will result in an annual operating cost of approximately $66, coming in on the higher end of similar models, which range from $48 to $72. However, this will vary depending on how much you use the device, so if you use this system constantly every day of the year it’s unrealistic to expect such a low cost.

Filtration

You won’t have much trouble when it comes time to clean your air filter. This AC unit will alert you when the filter needs to be cleaned by illuminating an alert light on the front of the device. Simply open up the front of this unit to remove the filter for cleaning. The filter is reusable, so you can easily take it out, dust it off, then wash it using warm water. After the filter is dried out, simply place it back in the AC unit.

Durability

The unit looks good and appears to be built very well. With plastic on the front and metal for the body, you shouldn’t have to worry about this window AC breaking easily (if you’re looking for a portable AC unit instead, take a look at the LG LP1419IVSM). None of the buttons or vents protrude from the front of the device, so there’s nothing that can get snagged or caught & broken. Judging from the customer comments (and LG’s reputation), it seems reasonable to expect years of use from your unit.

Value

If you’re interested in getting an LG LW8016 HR for your home, you can expect to spend about $500 (check out our LG LW1017ERSM review if you’re looking for a less expensive way to fill your room with cool air). LG gives you a one-year warranty on parts & labor, which is much better than companies that rely on Amazon to provide customer service. The LW8016HR scored a 4.6 out of 5-stars based on 164 ratings, so it’s safe to assume that this unit is worth the investment.

LG LW8016 HR Wrap Up

As a device that can both heat & cool your house, the LG LW8016 HR is a great purchase! It’s priced reasonably and can cool areas up to 320 sq. feet, so although you won’t get any wifi capabilities with this model, it’s still an effective performer that is useful year-round.
