The expensive Whynter ARC-1230WN delivers superb value with its powerful cooling, satisfactory noise level, convenient smart app connectivity, and hassle-free setup. However, it’s heavy, has no heater functionality, and the display is dim.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Whynter ARC-1230WN is a premium air conditioner with cooling, dehumidifying, and fan modes. Its 14000 BTU cooling capacity can cool up to 600 square feet of space, and although it has a dual hose system, it incorporates a compact hose-in-hose design. It weighs 73 lbs, but unlike some of the best air conditioners, which get remarkably quiet, the ARC-1230WN operates at 56.2 dB.

The AC has a fully automatic 80-degree vent, a 4-wheel design, and a window kit for setting up the AC in vertical and horizontal windows. The AC has a smart app (NetHome Plus), Google Assistant, and Alexa support. For an AC with a smoother smart app, consider this LG LP1022FVSM review.

Consensus

our Verdict

The premium Whynter ARC-1230WN’s 14000 BTU cooling capacity is superb for a portable AC and effectively cools 600-square-foot spaces. Its dual-hose system is incorporated in a hose-in-hose design for improved portability and convenience. Although not loud, the 56.2 dB noise level is only average (ranking in the middle of our certified, tested products) and not the best for tranquil sleep environments.

You can easily control the AC through the included remote or the smartphone app (which offers advanced controls over the remote), but the display is dim. Along with mode, temperature, and fan speed, there’s timer functionality, and you can automate the AC to run based on your location. Although only average, the 12.3 SEER rating means this AC is energy efficient, and installation is simple, taking only 5 to 10 minutes, but at 73 lbs, the AC is heavy to carry.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Powerful cooling
    • With 14000 BTU capacity, the premium Whynter ARC-1230WN offers excellent cooling for spaces up to 600 square feet. Along with cooling, it has a fan and dehumidifier.

    • For a lower-priced AC from Whynter with the same capacity, check this Whynter ARC-14S review.

  • Satisfactory noise level
    • At 56.2 dB, this AC isn’t loud, but it’s not ideal for tranquil sleep settings either.

    • It ranks average in our certified, tested list.

  • Wi-Fi connectivity and convenient controls
    • You can conveniently control this AC using the included remote, the smart app (NetHome Plus), and voice recognition (Google Assistant and Alexa).

    • The app offers greater control over the AC than the remote, including the option to set up automated AC behavior based on your physical location. For a mid-range AC with smart connectivity, read this Tosot Ashrae 8000 BTU review.

Reason to Avoid

  • Heavy build and dim display
    • Although the hose-in-hose design makes this AC more compact, its 73-lb weight is heavy, especially when carrying the AC on stairs.

    • The display is dim under bright light or during the day.

  • No heater
    • There’s no heater functionality. For an AC with cooling and heating functionality, check our Whynter ARC-14SH review.

The premium Whynter ARC-1230WN offers nearly double the cooling capacity and coverage of the mid-range Tosot Ashrae 8000 BTU and considerably better energy efficiency. It also has smart app connectivity, making it a more convenient option overall, but you’ll have to pay extra for a WiFi-enabled Ashrae 8000 BTU model.
