The AOC CQ271G had product testers pretty satisfied with how its 144Hz refresh rate kept screen tearing at bay and how its high contrast ratio ensured visibility in a dark setting. They were, however, not too happy with its narrow viewing angles and lack of support for HDR content – issues that the Acer Predator XB273U addresses very well.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The AOC CQ27G1 is a 1440p curved-screen computer display released in 2019 as an entry-level gaming monitor. It has a high native contrast ratio like most top-tier computer monitors for comfortable dark room viewing and it looks like a  premium gaming monitor because of its narrow top and side borders. This design makes it ideal for setting up a multi-monitor display. It’s got a decent 144Hz refresh rate, just like the AOC 24G2, and it also handles reflections pretty well. Ergonomics are good enough for stress-free adjustments, and its color accuracy is also quite good out of the box thanks to a Delta E rating of 2.29.

Consensus

our Verdict

The AOC CQ27G1 had expert testers happy about how well it handled transitions during their experiments, courtesy of its 144Hz refresh rate. Reviewers from Rtings did not encounter any screen tearing during their tests and felt it would be good enough for casual gaming. They also agreed that its 1440p screen resolution was okay for light photo editing and were impressed with its excellent SDR color gamut. They established that it had 95.1% coverage of the sRGB color gamut. Its high contrast ratio left the team at Display Ninja pretty satisfied. During their tests, they observed that it delivered deep black levels which were great for dark room viewing.

Unfortunately, the AOC CQ27G1 didn’t score full points due to narrow viewing angles and a lack of support for HDR content. Product testers found that images significantly deteriorated from the side and were also distraught that they could not enjoy the vividness that comes from viewing HDR content.

The AOC CQ27G1 is the precursor to the AOC CQ27G2, making the two very close substitutes for each other. The CQ27G2, however, comes with an upgrade in the form of a deeper 1500R curvature (the former has no curvature) for a more immersive viewing experience.

Both the AOC CQ27G1 and the AOC 27G2U were released in 2019 as 27-inch monitors that both have dual HDMI 2.0 ports, however, the 27G2U offers a total of four USB ports while the CQ27G1 has none. The CQ27G1 also has a higher native contrast ratio of 3263:1 compared to the 27G2U’s 1000:1 and is, therefore, more ideal for dark room viewing.

The AOC CQ27G1 offers wider viewing angles than the HP 27XQ and is an ideal pick for group viewing. Still, the 27XQ has a slightly higher peak brightness level of 350 nits compared to the CQ27G1’s 237 nits, making it better for use in a brightly lit setting.
