From our list of Best Shows On Netflix, Guillermo Del Toro produced an epic animated series suitable for the entire family. Jim Lake is a thoughtful person. He is the kind of person that loves his mother. While on his way to his high school one day, he is called forward by a strange amulet to save humankind and trolls from evil. After this epic showdown, consider another family-friendly series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Why We Like It – Trollhunters Review

Dreamwork’s Trollhunters is a unique story about Trolls at war. Jim Lake Jr has been chosen by a mysterious amulet to face off with evil trolls known as Gumm-Gumms. The amulet gave Jim some luxurious magical armor and a sword. The trolls he encounters look and act bizarre, but they have a sense of humor that makes this series so great for kids.

  • Epic Troll Battles
  • Feels suspenseful like a Del Toro movie
  • Feels like the series dragged on a bit

Anton Yelchin stars as Jim Lake Jr, the newest trollhunter. Jim is a noble person, he is the son that every parent dreams of. He is the kind of person to do good deeds throughout the day without ever really boasting about it. Now that he was chosen by the amulet, he is forcing himself to be brave and not let the trolls down in their battles. If the series bores you or the kids to sleep, switch it up with a series that parents will enjoy like Breaking Bad.

This series is 3-D animated, so expect dreamwork quality similar to other great works like Shrek or Madagascar. This series does have Guillermo Del Toro’s spooky touch, and some examples of that are when the trolls act mysteriously to not be seen by humans. The show is geared towards around 7 year olds, so don’t expect any raunchy qualities like Big Mouth.

This series is great for kids because Jim Lake is a good role model. Kids will see Jim Lake put his needs to the side as he accepts his destiny to become a Trollhunter. His bravery, kindness, and dedication are all good qualities for kids to reflect on. Aside from Jim, the good trolls are a joy to see as they are often entertaining. This show has all the cutesy qualities to be entertaining for the whole family.

Trollhunters Review Wrap Up

There are currently 3 seasons on Netflix filled with magical battles between Trolls and the Gumm-Gumms. Feel free to see how Jim handles his newly bestowed responsibilities with the help of the magical amulet and some colorful troll friends. This series is another example of great magical realism coming from the mind of Guillermo Del Toro.
