While the Sony Inzone H9 gaming headset’s bass and Bluetooth latency disappoint, its comfortable design, clear microphone, and good audio quality redeem its high price.

Product Snapshot
Overview
Launched in 2022, the Sony Inzone H9 is a closed-back wireless gaming headset in two colors (black and white) with a 40mm driver unit. Its frequency response is between 5Hz and 20,000Hz, and it weighs 0.72 lbs. The battery life goes up to 32 hours on a single charge with noise cancellation off, and a 10-minute quick charge gives you one hour of playtime.
Like the best gaming headset, the Inzone H9 supports SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs, and you can connect via Bluetooth and USB wireless simultaneously. The Inzone Hub PC Software allows you to customize the EQ function, and the controls include a volume dial, noise canceling/ ambient mode, chat balance, and Bluetooth.
The wireless Sony Inzone H9 enhances gameplay with immersive deep rumbles and lower mid-range sounds, customizable EQ, and precise directional imaging. However, connecting over Bluetooth muddies the sounds and drastically cuts out the bass.
These headphones are comfortable due to their lightweight build (0.72 lbs), leatherette earcups, and soft headband, but are too large for small heads. Microphone speech is loud and clear while engaged in multiplayer games, and if you want to mute yourself, just flip the mic up. The latency while using the USB dongle is low (24 ms) for perfect audio-visual synchronization but rises to a high 213 ms latency over Bluetooth. Read our comparison of the Asus Rog Delta vs Delta S if you want options with a lightweight design.
ReasonS to Buy
Outstanding audio quality
The Sony Inzone H9 is outstanding for gaming, thanks to a boosted upper-bass and lower mid-range, which bring explosive rumbles and gunfire for added immersion during gameplay. For 7.1 surround sound, read our Epos H3pro Hybrid review.
Moreover, you can customize EQ presets via the companion software and gain an edge over your enemies by tracing their location with precise audio cues.
Fairly comfortable
These headphones boast breathable leatherette earpads, a lightweight build (0.72 lbs), and soft headband padding for comfort during long gaming hours. Check out our Sennheiser GSP 670 review for a model with headband sliders.
Good mic quality
Voices sound clear without disturbing background noises since the mic lowers rumbling sounds like heavy engines or machinery. It scores 6.15 out of 10 in our mic quality rating.
You can mute the permanently affixed microphone by flipping it up.
Reason to Avoid
Poor Bluetooth bass range
There is no adequate thump and rumble when connected over Bluetooth, and the audio sounds somewhat muffled compared to the sound delivery over the USB dongle
Too big for small heads
Even the smallest adjustment on the headphones may seem too bulky for small heads, resulting in discomfort during extended wear.
High PC latency
The latency while PC gaming over Bluetooth is ultra-high at 213 ms. You’ll fare better with the dongle connection.

The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 has better bass accuracy for greater immersion than the Sony Inzone H9. It also comes with a 1/8″ TRRS to 1/8″ TRRS cable for quick plug-and-play connectivity, while the Inzone H9 is wireless. However, the Inzone H9’s ANC system blocks out ambient noise, whereas the Arctis Nova 7 lacks ANC. For more information, read our SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 review.

The Sony Inzone H9 has noise cancellation to drown out ambient noise, while the Sony PULSE 3D Wireless does not. The Inzone H9 boasts a superior 32-hour battery life, more than double that of the PULSE 3D Wireless’s 12-hour battery. Moreover, the Inzone H9 supports audio through Bluetooth and a USB dongle, whereas the PULSE 3D Wireless is limited to a dongle connection.

The newer Sony Inzone H9 offers minor enhancements over its predecessor, the Sony Inzone H7. The latest model has leatherette padding, unlike the older’s cloth padding. It also boasts ANC, which is lacking in the H7, and has a lower non-Bluetooth latency (24 ms) compared to the H7’s high 80 ms latency.
