Consensus

our Verdict

Experts love the Dolby Atmos and surround performance of the Samsung HW-Q950A, and they endorse it for movies, music, and TV shows.

Reviewers from What Hifi were delighted by the immersive 3D Atmos and surround performance, saying that it has a remarkably wide and directional soundstage that’s great for movies and gaming.

Editors from Tech Hive Were pleased by the incredibly deep bass of this speaker, approving it for all music genres, including EDM and hip-hop. It gets remarkably loud too, rivaling some high-end party speakers.

The speaker has an auto EQ room correction feature that puts sound profile management on autopilot. Listening to dialogue on this system is a joy, thanks to low audio latency and an outstanding center channel.

With a graphic equalizer and presets, this system allows changing the audio settings easily. It also has smart features like built-in Alexa and a mobile app e;s adjusting settings remotely. Thanks to a rich selection of wired and wireless connectivity options, the soundbar is easy to customize as well.

Reason to Buy

  • Impressive sound quality
    • This soundbar is excellent for most music genres, action movies, and TV shows with its superbly balanced sound profile. Dialogue and instruments are clear.

  • Immersive surround performance
    • Its stereo soundstage is wide with precise sound placement, while the surround soundstage is even better. Atmos performance is good, too, despite lacking some low bass.

  • Incredible voice clarity
    • Voice clarity is remarkable, thanks to the well-balanced mids and the discrete center channel. Voices are also placed precisely on the soundstage.

  • Good bass response
    • The bass response is largely even, with the low bass being slightly underemphasized out of the box. But with the bass adjustment feature, you can raise it just enough to add satisfying rumbles.

  • Excellent connectivity and smart integration
    • Connectivity is great thanks to the 2 x Full HDMI In, 1 x HDMI eARC, and 1 x Optical audio inputs, and the satellites and subwoofer connect wirelessly to the soundbar. Although the tested latency over eARC (80 ms), Optical (60 ms), and Full HDMI In (59 ms) ranks moderately compared to our other tested products, there is no audio lag. You can control some of the soundbar’s settings with the Samsung SmartThings app (Android and iOS), and there is built-in Alexa for vocal commands.

Reason to Avoid

  • The app has limited control
    • Although the app lets you change the volume, input, sound modes, and graphic EQ, you’ll need the remote to control the sound system’s different levels, audio sync, and Virtual Surround.
