Nextbase 612GW Dash Cams have excellent night video capture provided your headlights are on. And really, if it’s night, they should be on. The low-light capture is on the questionable side, though, which is odd considering the high-quality sensors. Regardless, check out our best car accessories list for more great options!

Why We Like It – Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam

The Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam comes loaded with GPS integrated directly into the mount which saves you money by not having to buy a GPS and is also great for a first-time dash cam buyer. The camera supports 4K video quality and has two parking modes so help prevent you from getting into an accident.

Pros
  • Good Night Video
  • Records for five minutes if collision is detected
  • 64GB SD Memory Card included
Cons
  • Relatively large file sizes
  • Low-Light capture is questionable
  • Wi-fi is difficult to operate

Performance

The Nextbase 612GW sports ultra HD video quality which the camera automatically defaults to when driving. The resulting files are larger than 1080p, however, and you’ll need a pretty modern GPU for the best playback on your computer. It’s night vision performance is quite good when the headlights are on (and it’s night, so they should be), but the low-light captures can be questionable which is a shame considering the Sony EXMOR R sensors. But if you don’t want something so high-tech and prefer something simple and functional, try the Drop Stop Original Patented Filler.

Design

The Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam has two parking modes: standard and intelligent, with standard being mostly for hardwired installations. Intelligent mode relies on a powered-up G Sensor which will detect a possible collision and record for five minutes. There aren’t a cluster of buttons, just an on/off switch and a ‘protect video’ button, and the touch screen makes it easy to navigate menus and use the camera. But like I said up top, if you prefer something less high-tech and more functional, check out the EPAuto Car Trash Storage Pockets.

Value

The Nextbase 612GW has a GPS Mount directly integrated into the unit which makes it great for a first dash cam buyer. Nextbase includes, very generously I might add, a 64GB SD Card with the unit. This is fantastic considering the large file sizes you’re going to need to play. The dash cam supports wi fi connectivity, but some reviews say it’s difficult to get working properly. For something that does work without any hassle, check out the Charger Ainope Aluminum Charging Compatible.

Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam Wrap Up

The Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam keeps you safe, and insured, by capturing possible collisions when you park. It also comes included with a 64GB SD card for help in playing back those larger than average files you’ll be recording. The wi-fi has been known to be difficult to operate, but you should be paying attention to the road, not the wi-fi.
