Older satellite TV antennas are still relevant and deserve a spot on the list of Best TV Antenna options. And the King Dish Tailgater Pro is a great one to consider buying. Because it’s a portable satellite antenna, it can also be one of the Best RV Antenna options in its class. To know whether or not it is one, read our review until the end.

Why We Like It – King Dish Tailgater Pro

The King Dish Tailgater Pro, as the name suggests, is perfect for tailgating purposes. As it is a portable satellite antenna that is fully automatic, it picks up TV channels with zero effort anywhere. And it doesn’t skimp on anything; it includes a 50 feet coax cable in the box.

Pros
  • Fully automatic portable satellite antenna
  • Roof mountable
  • Support for multiple displays simultaneously
Cons
  • Limited HD capabilities with the included pieces of equipment
  • Old Wally receiver used as the main receiver

Performance

The performance of the King Tailgater Pro is decent for the price. It acquires the signal of Western Arc satellites (110/119/129) just fine, and the process is fully automatic. The paid Dish service performs well enough with this antenna everywhere within the United States. And the Dish network subscription’s “pay as you go” model really makes it well worth it. Just make sure you get the new Wally receiver model along with the whole bundle.

Ease Of Install

Well, unlike the GE Pro Outdoor Antenna, the King Tailgater Pro is a portable satellite TV antenna. So installation isn’t necessary for most use cases. Still, just like the Winegard RV Antenna, the King Tailgater Pro is also roof mountable.

Durability

This satellite TV antenna unit is extremely sturdy, and so is the main receiver. The Dish Playmaker antenna is very much similar to this one in terms of durability, so that is another alternative option you have. But by and large, this antenna should easily last for years to come.

Range

The only requirement this Dish network-compatible satellite TV antenna has is a clear, unobstructed view of the southwest sky. And as we mentioned before, it comes included with a 50 feet long coax cable. While you probably won’t be using something like that in your RV, it would be absolutely necessary for a large house.

Value

This is where the King Tailgater roof mountable portable antenna stumbles a bit. It is pretty old at this point. But the price is comparatively high. The fact that you can get cheaper antennas nowadays that can deliver even HD channels for pretty much free really doesn’t help. And this one comes with limited HD capabilities to top that off. You can get a modern TV antenna like 1byone Amplified Outdoor Antenna that will give you a similar performance or outmatch the King Tailgater roof mountable portable antenna.

King Dish Tailgater Pro Wrap Up

If you’re looking for an excellent portable satellite antenna on the high end, the King Dish Tailgater Pro is a decent option, despite the high price. Most of that pretty much boils down to the high-quality components and the durability.
