For some of the best quality you can find, for a good price, the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Widescreen proves itself to be the best webcam for Skype. In fact, it saves its best feature—1080p at 30fps—for Skype only. Within and outside of Skype, you still get improved image quality through its use of a glass lens.

Why We Like It – Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

Seemingly built just for Skype, the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 can output your beautiful mug in crisp 1080p, at 30 frames per second, while in use with Skype.

  • 1080p/30fps via Skype for Windows
  • Improved image quality via glass lens
  • A brand you can trust
  • Drops to 720p on other apps
  • Doesn’t include a lens cover

Type, Lens, Size & Weight

Having a glass lens does more than improve durability, it also gives your footage clearer picture than plastic. Unfortunately, the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam doesn’t come with a lens cover. Still one of the smallest webcams at 7.68-oz and dimensions of 3.70 x 1.70 x 2.80 inches, significantly smaller than the Logitech HD Webcam C525.

Resolution & Display

When firing up Skype for video calls, you can expect 1080p at 30fps, which is great for clarity and conferences; and it’s the same for capturing footage. Outside of that, however, it drops to 720p depending on the software—but that’s still full HD video.

Tripod & Image Stability

Image stability is okay, but over time may drop. The issue is the clip-on design, which doesn’t always secure the camera, and over time loosens. Thankfully, the C920 Webcam supports tripods.

Optical Zoom, Microphone, Audio & Storage

You’ll find the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Widescreen lacks optical zoom and internal storage, but makes up through its autofocus. It does well at snapping back to your face when something interrupts. Audio quality is also a few steps above the Logitech C270 Widescreen HD Webcam due to it being omni-directional. That means it has a mic on each side, providing better, higher quality stereo sound.

Logitech webcams tend to be priced fairly, and given the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Widescreen’s performance, we’d say $83 is right on the money. You’re getting bumps in quality in almost every corner: sound quality, glass lens, durability, and image. But if you thought to yourself, “That’s more than I want to pay,” then downgrade to a Microsoft LifeCam.

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Wrap Up

You’ll be really happy with the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Widescreen’s performance, at least with Skype. Live footage with 1080p at 30fps and a glass lens ensures no details are missed. We do wish a lens cover had been added, but that’s definitely something you can pick up at a later date, preferably with a tripod.
