Product Snapshot

Overview

The LG LW6017R is an entry-level window air conditioner launched in mid-2022. The air conditioner has a cooling capacity of 6000 BTU to cool areas up to 250 sq ft in size. It also features four-way directional louvers to direct its airflow, and controls consist of soft touch inputs on its front panel.

Like most top-tier window air conditioners, the LG LW6017R ships with a remote, and it has a clean filter alert for cleaning or replacement. The unit also has a noise output of about 57 decibels and an auto restart feature that turns it back on when power is restored after a sudden power loss. For an affordable AC that cools down your room and doesn’t have as many features, check out our GE AHEC05AC review.

Consensus

our Verdict

The LG LW6017R is an easy-to-operate window AC unit with a cooling capacity of about 6000 BTU, designed to serve rooms of up to 260 sq ft in size, which is the typical bedroom or living quarters in a small to medium-sized apartment. The AC unit can cool down a room down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit pretty efficiently. Also, due to its compact size, it’s pretty easy to install. The unit has straightforward controls and ships with a remote for convenient operation. Unfortunately, there aren’t any smart features supported by this unit, and it is also not Energy Star Rated.

Its noise output of 57 dB is on the loud end and earns it a top 10% ranking compared to other alternatives in its category, but it does have some impressive features, such as auto restart (it automatically restarts after a power failure) and a filter clean alert (which allows for timely filter replacement or cleaning).

The LG LW6017R is meant to be fixed onto a window and cannot be moved around. Still, the LG LP1022FVSM is a more portable alternative, as it has easy roll casters that allows users to place it anywhere different. The LG LW6017R also has a lower cooling capacity than the LG LP1022FVSM, but it is the more affordable alternative. However, if you’re looking for a much more compact alternative, then check out our roundup of the smallest window air conditioners.

The LG LW6017R is a window air conditioner that doesn’t allow users to open and close their windows. The Midea U-shaped MAW08V1QWT, on the other hand, does. The two also have different cooling capacities, making the Midea AC better for slightly larger rooms. The Midea also has a better Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, making it more cost-efficient in terms of power consumption, despite the two being in the same price range.

The LG LW6017R has a much better Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio than the GE AHEC05AC and is quieter in operation. Another difference is with regard to controls, as the LG AC has soft touch inputs on its front panel as opposed to knobs on the GE. However, in terms of pricing, the GE Ac unit is the more affordable option.
