The H8G Quantum Series 55-inch class Android smart TV is one of the best tv monitors for gaming while on a budget. Costing approx. $530, this TV includes Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos technology, a 4K VA panel, works with Amazon Alexa, and has voice control via the remote that runs on Google Assistant (the Sony X950H is another Android TV with Google Assistant capabilities).
The Hisense 55H8G is the perfect addition to any home theater or smart home. With 90 local dimming zones, Dolby Vision HDR, Quantum Dot technology, and a price tag of just under $530, this TV is a deal that you don’t want to miss!
It’s enjoyable to watch your favorite HDR content (like TV shows on Hulu or movies on Netflix) on this TV. The 4K VA panel provides a great picture thanks to a combination of a motion rate of 240, Dolby Vision HDR, full-array local dimming zones, and Quantum Dot technology (for excellent picture quality on a gigantic screen check out the Sony X900H 85 Inch TV: 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV). Unfortunately (as is the case with most VA panels), the viewing angles on this monitor are horrible.
Since the H8G Quantum Series TV uses a VA panel instead of an IPS panel for its 4K ULED display, the viewing angles severely suffer. This isn’t helped by the screen size of 55″, which (while big) isn’t as large as other TVs on the market (if you want a bigger screen on your smart TV check out the Samsung Q80R TV). This 55-Inch Series Quantum Dot Smart TV does offer an “Enhanced Viewing Angle” mode, but this is a basically pointless feature that doesn’t improve the viewing angles whatsoever.
Encased in a black plastic casing, the Hisense 55H8G isn’t really made to take impacts, but it’s structurally sound enough for everyday use. It has only one button (located at the bottom of the TV), which might become an issue if it dies, although the remote is a much better option anyway as the single button controls both the input modes and the power. The stand the TV mounts on has a slight wobble to it, but it is made of metal so you won’t have to worry about it breaking.
As mentioned, this smart TV comes with a stand, but you can also mount it using a VESA 300×200 wall mount. On the back of each stand foot, there is a hook to help manage your input cords. The 55H8G has a total of 4 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, one ethernet port, a 3.5mm audio jack, component in, & digital audio output, which should be more than adequate for most gaming or home theater setups. The TV also has two down-firing 10W speakers delivering decent audio, but you’d be better off investing in a soundbar.
Hisense is a brand known for providing 4K televisions at low prices, and they definitely delivered with this smart TV. Improving on the previous model, the Hisense H8F, and costing less than $530, the H8G is the perfect choice for any gamers who don’t want to break the bank. Unlike many other TVs, the H8F offers both free delivery and free returns, as well as a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. Scoring 4.4 out of 5-stars on Amazon, it’s safe to say that this TV is worth the investment.
If you’ve only got $530, get the 55H8G. If you’ve got more than that, you should still consider the Hisense 55H8G! While this TV doesn’t offer the best speakers or the fastest refresh rates you can find on the higher-end models, it does have excellent performance, a high-quality picture, and (most importantly) positive user ratings.
