While the Neato D8 impressed product testers with how well it could clean up bare floors and high pile carpets, they felt it was not as efficient in cleaning low pile carpets.

They also weren’t impressed with the vacuum’s high maintenance needs and recurring costs.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Neato D8 is an entry-level robot vacuum cleaner announced in 2018. It has a tested runtime of up to 71 minutes, allowing it to clean up to 750 square meters in a single charge.

It also has a high-performance HEPA filter that captures up to 99.5% of allergens, making it almost as efficient as the best vacuum cleaners on the market.

The vacuum is quieter than most top-rated robot vacuum cleaners, with an output of up to 64dB in eco mode and 70db when cleaning carpets. This is also at par with the 68dB noise level of the Narwal T10, as you’ll see in our Narwal T10 review.

The D8 also has an industry average 0.5-liter dirt compartment that might not require very frequent emptying and two cleaning modes to choose from: Eco and Turbo mode.

Its suction power also changes based on the operating mode, averaging 13.74 CFM in Eco mode and 19.74 CFM in Turbo mode.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Neato D8 impressed expert testers with its cleaning of bare floors and high pile carpets. Its 100% clearance score on bare floors delighted product reviewers from Rtings, as they established that the D8 was more capable of dealing with large and small debris on hard floors than the Onson Goovi F007 which struggled a lot in that area. (Read more about it on our ONSON GOOVI F007 robot vacuum review).

Critics from Tech Radar also liked how intuitive the D8’s companion app was, as they were quickly able to set cleaning schedules, set up virtual no-go zones, and program its cleaning path (thanks to LIDAR technology) during their tests.

They also appreciated that the D8 shipped with two HEPA filters, a brush cleaning tool, and an extra replacement spiral combo brush.

However, reviewers didn’t like the D8’s performance in clearing fine debris on low pile carpet, as it only averaged about 41% clearance during their tests. They also didn’t appreciate its many recurring costs.

Reason to Buy

  • Great for hard floor cleaning
  • Intuitive companion app
  • High-performance HEPA filter
  • Low noise output
  • Standard 0.5-liter dirt capacity

Reason to Avoid

  • Not great for low pile carpet
  • High maintenance needs
  • Substantial recurring costs

The Neato D8 is also not a match for the Neato D7’s batter performance since the D8 has a battery life of up to 122 minutes while the D8 can only go up to 71 minutes. However, the D8 is much better for cleaning high pile carpets than the D7 since it eliminates up to 77% of large debris compared to the D7’s 55% clearance.

The Neato D8 has a larger 0.5-liter dirt compartment compared to the Roborock S7, which has a 0.25-liter dirt capacity. However, the S7 runs for up to 204 minutes, much longer than the D8, which is capable of 71 minutes of runtime.
