Consensus

our Verdict

The Eero Max 7 is a tri-band WiFi7 router that supports MU-MIMO and wired and wireless backhaul. It’s a great network for small- to medium-sized homes. The download speeds are incredible, clocking at 1078 Mbps on a 5GHz band, which sits among the top 5% of the category. The 2.4 GHZ download speeds are 96 Mbps, which is also great. The 6GHz upload speed — at 1222 Mbps — is one of the best there is. The dedicated smart app allows for easy setup and access to smart features, parental controls, and security features, although many require a paid subscription. Latency is also impressive, as devices take about 7 ms to connect.

However, the router itself only has a range of 90 feet, meaning it may require more nodes. Another pitfall is that the router lacks USB ports, which can hinder gaming and office connections.

Reason to Buy

  • Exceptional Download WiFi Speed
    • The Eero Max 7 is a tri-band, mesh WiFi7 router that creates a high-performance network for modestly sized houses. Its 5 GHz download speeds are among the best out there, at 1078 Mbps, in the top 5% of the category.

    • The 2.4GHz download speed of 96 Mbps sits in the top third of routers.  The router’s 5 GHz upload speeds are 411 Mbps, which is in the top 10%. Its 6GHz upload speed is also stellar, coming in at 1222 Mbps.

  • Easy Installation and Configuration
    • The router supports extremely easy setup through the dedicated app. Establishing a connection takes under 10 minutes. Users can also easily configure network settings, alter parental controls, and security features like VPN connection from the app. However, parental controls cost extra.

    • There are also many smart automation features available, as well as the ability to control routers and nodes via voice assistant apps.

  • Low Latency
    • The Eero Max 7 establishes connection quickly, as latency measures in at 7 ms, which is above average for a router.

Reason to Avoid

  • Poor 2.4 GHz Upload Speeds
    • 2.4 GHZ upload speeds measure 75 Mbps, which is in the bottom half of the category.

  • Short Range of Coverage
    • The router connection struggles once you reach 27.4 meters, placing in the lower 50% of routers.

  • Limited Port Space
    • The router doesn’t support external wired connections, as it has no USB ports. It also only has 4 LAN ports on the router.

The Eero Max 7 is a tri-band router with faster speeds than the dual-band Eero 6+. At 5GHz, the Eero Max 7 has a peak download speed of 1078 Mbps, and the Eero 6+ has 444 Mbps. As for upload speed, the Max 7 is 410 Mbps, compared to the 6+, at 147 Mbps. The Eero Max 7 also offers more LAN ports, offering three on the router, while the 6+ has only 1. As for other features, the Eero Max 7 has a backhaul and support for WiFi7, but the Eero 6+ is limited to WiFi7 and comes without backhaul. Both routers are oriented for home use, but the EeroMax seven betters serve those looking to stream high-quality 4k and 8k content, while the Eero 6+ works better for general home use.
