The Razer Sila AC3000 is an easy-to-install tri-band router with average download speeds and gamer-centric features. However, its app has limited parental controls and lacks malware protection features.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Razer AC3000 router is a mid-tier offering that was first introduced in 2018. The tri-band router covers about 3000 square feet courtesy of its nine internal antennas, but buyers can purchase two more to create a mesh-router system that covers up to 9000 square feet. The router runs on a quad-core 717GHz CPU with 4GB of flash memory and 512MB of RAM.

It also has three Gigabit LAN ports (although the best routers have more, like the Netger Rax20, which has 5, and the Netgear Nighthawk XR700, which has 7 ), a WAN port, a USB 2.0 port, and a USB 3.0 port as its input options, and owners can opt to download its companion app for easy installation and management.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Razer Sila AC3000 is a tri-band router tailored for gaming. It has a download speed of 40.35 Mbps and 226 Mbps for its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, which makes it just above average compared to other routers in its category. In addition, the Sila takes advantage of SmartLanes to avoid congestion and uses FastLanes to grant it access to a variety of free 5GHz Wi-Fi channels. Through its FasTrack QoS technology, owners can decide which websites have bandwidth priority, and by adding another Sila router, they can build a mesh network for better coverage. This is possible because the router can use one of its bands for a wireless backhaul connection. Its parental control options are pretty limited.

The router also has features such as Beamforming technology for stronger connections and Multi-user MIMO for a smoother streaming experience and faster download times.

Reason to Buy

  • Easy to use and install
    • The AC3000 is very easy to install, courtesy of its user-intuitive app. Once owners create an account, they can view connectivity strength and connected devices.

Reason to Avoid

  • Average connectivity speeds
    • The AC3000 has a download speed of 16.7 Mbps and 166 Mbps over its networks, making it good enough for lag-free gaming. However, these speeds only make it above average compared to other alternatives in its category.

  • Limited parental control options
    • The Razer Sila AC3000 has an app that offers minimal parental control options, so owners won’t be able to prevent access to certain sites or content effectively.

  • Poor range
    • The Razer Sila AC3000 has a tested range of up to 30 feet, which places it in the bottom 30% of routers in its category. However, owners can combine three routers for a coverage of up to 9000 square meters since it supports a mesh-router setup.

The Razer AC3000 is more designed for home use as it misses out on a 5G hotspot and a battery that the Razer Sila 5G router has, which allows for it to be used to provide connectivity while on the move.

The Razer Sila AC3000 has a download speed of 40.35 Mbps and 226 Mbps on its 2.4GHz and 5 GHz networks, respectively. However, this makes it slower than the TP-Link Archer AX11000, which has a download speed of 65.5 Mbps and 459 Mbps. The Razer Sila AC3000 is also designed with nine in-built antennas, while the TP-Link Archer AX11000 Next-Gen Tri-Band router has eight built-in antennas.

To see what else the AX11000 router has in store, here’s our TP ink AX11000 review, but if you’re looking for an alternative that offers excellent connectivity for a range of up to 100 feet, then you might be interested in our Reyee RG E5 review.

With a download speed of 40.35 Mbps and 226 Mbps on its 2.4GHz and 5 GHz networks, the Razer Sila AC3000 comes nowhere close to the Synology WRX560, which has a download speed of 120.42 Mbps and 640.41 Mbps on both networks. However, the AC3000 is a tri-band router, while the WRX560 is a dual-band router. Check out our Synology WRX560 review for what else the router has to offer, but if you looking for a mesh-router system that provides more widespread coverage, then our Netgear Orbi RBKE963 review might be worth a look.
