There’s always that one guy in the office who has to get his coffee exactly right. Everybody knows this guy. He shows up to work fifteen minutes early but isn’t on the clock, because he needs the time to get his cup of coffee exactly right. He fusses with precision machines, carefully heats the water, and takes his coffee seriously. The bad news is that you will never be able to afford the therapy this guy needs. The good news is that now there’s a mug you can give him to make him less annoying.

Created by purveyors of the neat and almost-useful gadget, Brando, this mug has a temperature sensor with not one, but two LED indicators. The first is a general temperature warning in the shape of a heart: Blue for cold, yellow for the ideal temperature range for tea, and red for the best temperature range for coffee. If you want a precise temperature, and Captain Fussy almost assuredly will, that’s provided by an LED at the bottom of the cup.

It runs on AA batteries, socketed in the bottom of the cup. It’s even actually not badly designed, considering how prone Brando is to kawaisa, i.e. making everything as cutesy as humanly possible. True, the LED heart is a bit tacky (and it pulses, apparently, which, ew), but the mug itself is a clean white cylinder, and it even has a no-spill lid that’s relatively elegant and not remotely hideous. Although there is a heart on the battery lid, for some reason, but, hell, that’s facing the table most of the time.

Currently you can get this on Brando’s website directly, for $37, but we’re sure it’s going to start turning up on mall carts across the country for Christmas. Just be sure coffee guy knows it’s rated for Celsius, not Fahrenheit.
