Oh Microsoft, how I loathe you sometimes. But tonight, yes tonight, or today depending on when you’re reading this wonderful post of optimism, I applaud you. You see, and in case you missed it, Bill Gates appeared along side Jerry Seinfeld is some weird ass commercial a few months ago. They exchange some banter about shoes and then proceed to the parking lot where Gates fixes his pants like a normal ‘joe’. I think most people scratched their heads and then went about their daily business not thinking twice about the advert. Ultimately, the commercials were pulled, or so folks say. What was the point? Microsoft was trying to reach an Apple level of branding, or at least counter some of the Apple ‘make the switch’. Which brings me to my ultimate point; Microsoft’s latest PR move: 4 t-shirts, one of which depicts a young Bill Gates under arrest and in booking (dubbed the Misdemeanor). I think it’s a great idea and probably is the most cost effective way for the company to help humanize the PC. Sure, the demographic that shops at Urban Outfitter’s might not even know who Bill Gates is, but it can’t hurt to try, right?
