ZEUS Is Not Only A 3D Printer And Copier, But Can Fax “Print Outs”

3D printing is one of the more fascinating technologies out there right now. But to print anything in 3D, you first need a very, very detailed scan, or a CAD file of the object. ZEUS looks to solve that by being both a 3D printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine. Really.

The Might of ZEUS

The concept is pretty simple; want to send somebody an object? Well, after they get a ZEUS (sorry, I just can’t stop capitalizing it), you just stick it in, hit Fax, and you’re done. ZEUS will use a 3D camera and a swiping laser to scan whatever object you want to send your friends, rotating it on a turntable, and print it out for them. We just recommend against giving a fraternity or your immature cousin Dave one of these things. Ever. Even with the “confirm file” option.

The same is true of copying. If you just want to keep an object for later use, pop it in, scan it, and keep the file for when you need it. It even includes repair features in the scan that ensure you don’t get some weird distorted chunk of plastic.

No Wires

ZEUS is also completely self-contained; you don’t have to hook it up to a computer to get it to work or for it to send and receive files. Instead everything is handled by a seven-inch touchscreen on the front of the device. It’s so simple a child could use it, which admittedly may be a slight problem and you might want to lock the thing if you buy one.

The Cost Of ZEUS

Currently, AIO Robotics is running a Kickstarter for ZEUS, and as you might expect from an all-in-one solution, it’s not cheap. Currently there are only about 350 slots for the first two batches of ZEUS left, and they’ll run you $2500 a pop. But, hey, it’ll be worth it for the bragging rights.
