Why We Like It – YI 4K Action Camera

The YI Action Camera is an affordable alternative to the GoPro Hero4 Black. It has a bigger touchscreen compared to many action cams (except the Panasonic Lumix LX10 which has a 3″ touchscreen) and delivers fantastic image quality and video quality.

Performance

Yi cameras have a fantastic reputation in the action camera world. For a cheap camera, YI offers 4K recording in 30fps and 12 MP pictures. Unlike the Panasonic Lumix LX15, it can also record video in 1080p at 120fps and 720p at 240fps. Both video mode and photo mode use a Sony IMX377 image sensor for superior clarity. YI Technology has also added Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and electronic stabilization to this action cam. The Yi also has better battery life compared to most action cams. If you don’t need to be mobile, the Logitech C922x Pro is a better option.

Design

Our Yi Action Camera review wouldn’t be complete without talking about the design. It comes in a very minimalist and subtle matte black rectangle. The front is fairly plain with specs printed beside the large wide-angle lens. Most of the rear is taken up by the large, 2.2-inch touchscreen with a 160-degree viewing angle. This camera is impact-resistant, but only becomes waterproof with the addition of a waterproof case. It also features a rechargeable 1200mAh battery. The Lakasara 1080p Camcorder is a better bet if you need facial recognition.

Value

The Yi Action Camera has a much lower price compared to many other action cameras but has many comparable features. It can record both HD and 4K with absolute clarity because of the electronic image stabilization. It may look basic, but the large, 2.2-inch touchscreen is very smooth and has intuitive controls. This camera also can be controlled by remote through Bluetooth, and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi. The YI Action Camera has incredible value, just like the Canon Vixia HF R800 and the DJI Osmo Action, and is one of the best action cams for the price.
