Sony Proves Its Walkman Is Waterproof, Sells Device In Water Bottles (video)

It’s pretty natural to be skeptical at products labeled “waterproof” since it can mean a number of things. It might be okay if a bit of water splashed on it or it might still work if submerged in water for a limited time. Well, Sony wants to prove to consumers that their NWZ-W270 MP3 Player is indeed waterproof as advertised. The device was launched at last year’s CES show with ads showcasing swimmers using it under water, but now Auckland-based ad agency DraftFCB came up with a clever way to promote the device by selling it in water bottles. Yup, they submerged the device in water bottles filled with water at various vending machines at pools and gyms in New Zealand. In an ad demonstrating the campaign, DraftFCB calls it the “Bottled Walkman.” Sony has always emphasized how many of their products are water resistance, like their flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, and its predecessor, the Xperia Z, as well as the Xperia Tablet Z.
