To be frank, the Trayvax Contour Front Pocket Wallet could have taken a few notes from the best cool wallets, since it’s only concerned with being the Best Tactical Wallet. You can do both! But there’s no doubting its durable, stainless steel frame, shaped into a minimalist design and given RFID resistance.
Made of durable, stainless steel metal, the Trayvax Contour sets the bar on what a tough minimalist wallet can be, yet still makes it small and compact to fit in your front pocket. Since Trayvax has lots of stainless steel wallets, go through our Trayvax axis review and discover another stainless steel wallet with a money clip, hidden coin pocket, and an ID window.
While the Trayvax Contour isn’t a looker, it still looks better than its brother, the wallet in our Trayvax Element review. There’s only a handful who might like that steel look, but it’s niche at best. And there isn’t enough leather here to make it a refined leather wallet.
There’s no doubt about it: the Trayvax Contour is one tough wallet. It makes more use out of stainless steel than the Trayvax Ascent, which incorporates more leather than anything else. In fact, it has a layer of titanium aluminum nitride over CNC machined stainless steel, with a bit of leather for style and function.
If you were hoping to do some hiking, this Trayvax Wallet is definitely going to serve you well, due to its ability to withstand weathering and damage. However, this is also a top grain oil tanned leather wallet, so it needs to be cared for to last. It can hold about 7 cards, but exposes the numbers on the top card, along with a space for up to 10 bills. The leather strap is particularly strong at holding said bills in place. And to top it off, its RFID resistance can make it really hard for card readers to grab your data.
The Trayvax Contour is so tiny, measuring 3.8 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches in size and only weighing 4 ounces. It has no problem sliding into your front pocket, and you probably won’t even notice it there. It can also do more than hold bills and cards. How about opening bottles? It has a bottle opener, which also doubles as a place to hook your wallet to your backpack.
So, the Trayvax Contour is great, right? Go out and get one? Not so fast! When you boil it down, the Trayvax Contour, quite frankly, isn’t worth $170. It’s far too expensive for the basic features it offers, not even its durability warrants such a price. Unless you’re heading to war, go with the Magpul Daka Everyday Wallet.
There are dozens of examples of wallets that offer great features in a small amount of space, without sacrificing its minimalist design; the Trayvax Contour is not one of them. It’s certainly one of the toughest tactical wallets you’ll come across, due to its steel frame and RFID protection, but its price is hard to look past.
