Toshiba is a well-known Japanese brand that’s got a wide range of consumer electronics under its belt. It’s also one of the many manufacturers that come to mind when you think about kitchen appliances. Whether you need a fridge, microwave oven, or blender, Toshiba makes many household appliances. You’ll want to compare different products to see whether or not they will fit your preferences.

If you happen to be shopping around for the best microwave oven, or even for the best countertop microwave, the Toshiba ECO42A5C-SS microwave oven could be a perfect place to get started. Although, if you’d prefer another brand, we recommend reading our Sharp R1874T 850W review and our Sharp ZR559YW microwave oven review.

Why We Like It – Toshiba EC042A5C-SS Microwave

The Toshiba EC042A5C-SS microwave is a perfect tool that’ll make it easier for you to handle a large variety of meals and techniques in the kitchen. This also includes baking in a microwave. And, with sensor cooking technology that features up to 13 different menus, the microwave is more than perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of time cooking.

  • Easy to use
  • Features both microwave and convection cooking
  • 13 sensor cooking menus
  • Only available in a black stainless steel color

Power & Performance

With an interior capacity of 1.5 cu ft, the stainless steel Toshiba microwave is family-friendly, as it allows you to prepare large-size meals. The microwave combines both convection and microwave cooking into one appliance, and this makes the result of your cooking a lot more evened out with no hotspots. It’s got a power output of close to 1000 Watts. And, while this may not be as much as you’ll get with a high-end Samsung microwave, it’s still good enough for large-volume cooking.

The Toshiba EC042A5C-SS convection microwave is an elegantly designed kitchen appliance. It’s got a stylish stainless steel finish that it shares with the Toshiba EM925A5A BS microwave, and in fact, if you place the two microwaves side by side, you’ll likely struggle to differentiate between the two. Its black stainless steel finish makes it very easy to maintain, and to clean the interior, all you’ll need is a few wipes from a damp cloth.

Ease of Use

Anyone who’s used a regular microwave before will find the Toshiba EC042A5C-SS microwave very easy to navigate. It’s got a green-lit LED display at the top of its control panel, followed by a set of touch keys that are well labeled out. You’ll be able to decide whether to microwave your food, use convection cooking, or use a combination of the two functions. The microwave is also very much capable of defrosting your frozen foods by either time or weight, but unlike the Farberware Black FMO10AHDBKC, it does not feature an air fryer function. If you want a microwave that fits tight spaces, check out the Whirlpool Countertop Microwave with a rounded back. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a model that’s very simple to use, you’ll want to check out the Sharp R 21LCFS commercial microwave.

Added Features & Versatility

Thanks to this microwave’s convection features, baking and roasting have become very easy to do. It comes with four auto-bake menus that allow it to handle frozen pizza, muffins, biscuits, and frozen french fries, as well as four roast menus that make it perfect for handling beef, whole chicken, and turkey breasts, and pork. There’s also a one-touch popcorn button for instant popcorn, as well as sensor cooking technology that’s great for cooking up to 13 different meals.

If your electricity bill is already running out of control, you’ll be pleased to find out that the Toshiba EC042A5C-SS countertop microwave does feature an eco mode that you can activate to shut down the LCD display, and help you save up on your power costs. The microwave also features quiet operation, as you’ll also be able to shut off its beeping sound, and have it working, especially at night when you don’t want to wake anybody up.

Toshiba EC042A5C-SS Microwave Wrap Up

At only $200, the Toshiba EC042A5C-SS is a budget microwave convection oven that’s bundled up with features that any cook will find very convenient. If you’re still not sure about whether or not it’s the microwave for you, head over to its Amazon page and find out what first-time buyers and users had to say about it, and maybe you’ll have a change of heart.
