Tesla Model S Goes Up In Flames For The Third Time

Tesla is sure getting a lot of attention! It won Car of the Year, saw its stock price rise to crazy numbers and has gotten numerous media attention. Now it’s getting attention for another car fire. This time in Tennessee, just outside of Smyrna. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a Model S going up in flames, either. It happened in Washington when a battery pack pierced by a metallic piece of road debris caused it to catch fire, then it happened in Mexico when a driver ran into a concrete wall and a tree. The Tennessee fire was caught by a Twitter user who was at the scene. Now Reuters is reporting that the driver “ran over a tow hitch,” which “hit the undercarriage of the vehicle causing an electrical fire” (according to a highway patrol report). Tesla has spoken out on the blaze, stating that it occurred after an accident and put out the rolling statement:

We have been in contact with the driver, who was not injured and believes the car saved his life. Our team is on its way to Tennessee to learn more about what happened. We will provide more information when we’re able to do so.

Right now it’s a mere coincidence that another Tesla ended up in flames, since lots of cars burn every year, but you have to wonder if there is something wrong. One thing is for sure – stock holders weren’t too happy with another blaze since their stock went down after the news hit.
