The Tern GSD S10 Electric Cargo Bike is one of the best electric bikes built for commuting or for families to perform errands together, with a 440-pound load capacity and a Bosch dual battery system that can ride up to 121 miles before needing a recharge. We loved the safety features here, including a suite of Magura 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes and ultra-bright front lights and tail lights. The Motor Bosch performance lets it go up to 20 miles per hour, and the puncture-resistant tires excel across a variety of terrain types, unsurprisingly, all of that makes it one of the best electric cargo bikes.

Why We Like It – Tern GSD S10

The Tern GSD S10 is a great choice for families, thanks to an impressive 440-pound load capacity, incredibly safe 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes, and a dual battery system that can go more than 120 pounds before needing a recharge, it’s a heavy sister bike to the GSD S00. You could also read the Tern GSD S00 review to learn about a different cargo bike.

  • 440-pound load capacity
  • Bosch dual battery system gets 121 miles on single charge
  • Powerful Magura 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes
  • 80 Lbs

Durability & Build Quality

Though the bike is designed to fit the most popular passenger seat options, including Thule Yepp Maxi seats, these seats need to be purchased separately. Additionally, this cargo bike is among the performance mountain bikes to have a boost thru-axle. Unfortunately, it’s somewhat heavy, at nearly 80 pounds, which will make it difficult to carry up flights of stairs, for instance. Given these points, it’s certainly much lighter than the Urban Arrow Shorty electric cargo bike, which weighs 110lbs. Alternatively, if you want a lighter bike, you’ll do better with the Surly Big Easy Longtail electric cargo bike.

The same is the Tern Andros custom, which allows for simple and quick adjustment when you’re out and don’t have your tools. The rear hub and tire aren’t too different from the front, with both being Upgraded Atlas Wheels with custom CNC machined hubs for extra strength and durability, even if it can’t be the Yuba Spicy Curry Bosch.

Performance (Speed & Acceleration)

The GSD S10 uses a customizable Bosch Performance motor, which is kept at a max speed of 20 mph, unlike the Trek Domane+. With ten different gears and four different levels of e-assist, people found it pretty easy to get up to 20 mph, and with hydraulic disc brakes, it was easy to stop as well. For smooth, efficient shifting, the Shimano Deore 1 × 10-speed hub will act as your gear shift. With a heavy-duty frame, integrated rear rack, and integrated lower decks. Range & Battery

The motors integrated into the Bosch battery are set under the rack, instead of on the downtube. Making the tube a good place to keep your water or the water for another if you choose to have child seats like two Thule Yepp. Now the bike comes with a single battery, but the bike has room for two, leading even many to complain about their electric bike.

Safety features

The powerful and responsive brake Magura MT5 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes bring the bike to a grinding halt from the max speed with little drift ensuring your safety when you need to stop. Comes with the super tough Hub Tern Atlas Boost Thru Axle with the integrated auto locks.

While the S00 can come in both beetle blue and silver blue, the S10 only comes in black. While the display Bosch offered doesn’t stand out as being special, the battery Bosch is a good one for a cargo e-bike though most wish it came with a second one. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to say your bike is rad like you could with the Rad Power Bikes Radwagon.

Tern GSD S10 Wrap Up

So no matter if you’re taking the family out for lunch or racing to the airport with your Tern X luggage, you’ll arrive without being too sweaty and with everything you’d need due to its high carry limit not too far off from the Pedego Stretch.
