Why We Like It – Technivorm Moccamaster KBG 741

The Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Machine is regarded as one of the best coffee makers in the coffee aficionado world. And with its ability to brew and keep 10 cups of coffee warm at a time, maintain a consistent temperature, and has an auto drip stop that works like a charm, we can see why.

Pros
  • Auto Drip Stop for less mess
  • Hot Plate works as advertised
  • Polished silver looks great
Cons
  • Can’t double as espresso machine
  • Glass carafe feels weak
  • Expensive

Performance

The Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Machine uses an automatic drip stop to cut down on mess and overflow to produce the best drip coffee possible. It maintains a consistent temperature for proper flavour extraction and good coffee from your coffee grounds. The unit takes about five minutes and forty-five seconds to go from ground coffee to perfect coffee. Six minutes if you count the final few drips. The machine brews coffee that’s slightly on the bitter side, so consider the Cuisinart DCC-320 Perfect Temp if you want to control the strength of your coffee.

Design

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBG has a tall tower topped with a water tank and, to the right, a brew basket that looks like it’s floating above the stainless steel thermal carafe. The Technivorm sports two copper heating elements which increases the brewing temperature to 200 degrees to both keep the hot plate warm and make coffee quick. The Technivorm Coffee Grinder’s glass carafe does feel a little bit frail to the touch though. If you still want a good cup of great coffee, consider the OXO Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker.

Value

Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Makers retail for about $300.00, which is fair, but still a little on the expensive side. Make sure you check out the Bodum Bistro Coffee Maker if you’re looking for good tasting coffee at an affordable price point. The Technivorm comes in one colour, polished silver, and considering that goes with everything it’s nice to know you won’t be agonizing over your colour choices. And the fact that it can pump out 10 cups of coffee and keep them all warm is something to be impressed by too.

Technivorm Moccamaster KBG 741 Wrap Up

The Technivorm Moccamaster Drip Coffee Maker is easy to recommend to coffee aficionados who want to drink the perfect cup every morning. It’s a little more difficult to recommend to someone on a budget who still wants a fantastic cup of coffee to start their day. But if they’re willing to shell out the money, they won’t be disappointed.
