The Swagtron Swagger 5 E Scooter may get less range than advertised, but its excellent hybrid tire system ensures you get a smooth, slat-free ride and is one of the reasons it’s considered one of the best electric scooters for commuting and the best electric scooter for adults street legal. And with a max rider weight of 300 pounds, you can consider it the best electric scooter for heavy adults or, generally, the best electric scooter.

Why We Like It – Swagtron Swagger 5

The Swagtron Swagger 5 beats out almost every commuting scooter in its class when it comes to speed, allowing you to travel the 8.5-mile range in no time flat. The hybrid, dual-braking system also ensures you can stop on time if an immediate brake is needed and not go flying off the front handlebars.

Pros
  • Excellent 8.5” Tires
  • 3.5 Hour Charge Time
  • IPX4 Water Resistance
Cons
  • Only Acceptable Hill-Climbing Capabilities
  • Gets Less Range than Advertised

Performance

Swagtron Scooters Electric features a top speed of about 18 miles per hour which is pretty much on par with other scooters in its class like the Razor Ecosmart Metro Electric Scooter, if not just a few miles up from them. The Swagtron Swagger 5 also contains acceptable, but not particularly exceptional, hill climbing capabilities. In a real-time test, it took the scooter 24 seconds to complete a 10% incline, 60-meter hill climb with a 163-pound rider. However, if you want more speed, check out our Widewheel Pro review.

Safety

The Swagtron Adult Electric Scooter comes with a hybrid system of a front electric brake and a rear disc brake. The front brake is activated as soon as the lever is pulled and, combined with the rear brake, allows you to stop almost immediately for added safety. The tires are 8.5”, with the front tire being pneumatic and the rear tire being airless. Considering the rear tire is almost always the one to go flat, this is a nice trade-off that will keep you riding for longer. If you’d like to eliminate flats altogether, check out the Ninebot Segway ES2.

Battery Life

The Swagtron Swagger 5 can get a range of about 8.5 miles per charge. While not a particularly bad range, this is less than Swagtron’s claim of a 12-mile range under ideal conditions. However, the battery recharge time on the Swagtron Swagger 5 is among the lowest we’ve seen at 3.5 hours and is comparable to the Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter but slightly slower than the URB-E folding electric scooter that has a 2-3 hour recharge time. Easily one of the best electric scooters for recharge time, the Swagtron Swagger 5 will keep you moving without you needing to charge it overnight. Are you looking for a scooter with a long-range battery that can speed up to 18mph? You should read our SKRT electric scooter review.

Durability

In a rarity among electric scooters, the Swagtron Swagger 5 comes with a waterproof rating of IPX4 which means you don’t need to worry if it starts drizzling a little while you’re riding. The powder-coated frame and welds seem to be identical in design vs Xiaomi M365. And while some components may feel a little cheap, the crux of the scooter, such as the frame, motor, and stem, all feel very sturdy. And to ensure your scooter lasts a long time, check out our article on how to protect electric scooters from rain. Alternatively, you can go for a gas-powered scooter with speeds of up to 35 mph. Read more about it in our TAO 49cc review.

Value

The cockpit features a bright central LED display that gives battery status, speed, Bluetooth pairing, and access to cruise control features. It weighs only about 26.5 pounds and folds quite easily, with only the handlebars sticking out ever so slightly because they are not foldable. But still, it’s light and compact enough to carry with you around campus or on the subway if need be.

Swagtron Swagger 5 Wrap Up

To review Swagtron Swagger 5 Scooters, one should definitely mention its out-of-this-world recharge time. You won’t need to leave it plugged in all night and can go for continuous rides whenever your heart desires. And while you may not be able to submerge it in water (why would you anyway?), it can survive a drizzle or a splashing and still keep kicking.
