These new cameras keep on impressing us with their advanced tech and the way they combine DSLR features with more affordable, less interchangeable designs. We’ve already talked about some of the best compact digital cameras this year, but we also like to talk about the latest trends in the market and how they are affecting individual product features. For Sony’s latest DSC-RX10 Mark 3, the focus is clear, and it’s focus: This model is all about zooming and capturing the action without having your photo turn blurry or unfocused when you least expect.
To help with this professional grade image capture, the camera is equipped with a 20.1-megapixel sensor with DRAM and a 25x optical zoom lens. The autofocus capabilities can activate within 0.09 seconds, and there’s an anti-distortion shutter to help smooth over any awkward split-second takes. If you would rather take a movie than photos, then it comes with a slow-motion movie mode that takes 960fps footage to make sure you capture every detail possible. In the back is an OLED viewfinder and a 3-inch LCD screen.
If you want to share the images or videos you took, there is both Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity for linking to your smartphone – two options that are becoming very common in the high-end compact camera market since they allow for super-easy social sharing and photo management when don correctly.
These features make the camera ideal for capturing wildlife or sports action, but you can probably find many other “tourist” reasons to use the camera. The camera body, despite that enormous lens, is made to endure a bit of travel with a magnesium alloy frame that is dust and moisture resistant.
However, it’s important to note here that not all features of the digital camera are made for beginners – in fact, some assume you really know what you are doing. This includes three control rings for independent focus, zoom, and aperture, which could prove more trouble than help to those without much experience in photography.
Caveat aside, you can pick up this powerful digital camera in May, or pre-order now. Prices start at $1,500.
