The speed and design make the Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 easily fit the mold as the best electric scooter for climbing hills, but not so much the best electric moped. The 300W motor is pushing decent speeds, while the short charging time gets it up and running ASAP. It’s a solid choice for those looking to reduce their footprint and commute with something smaller. Check it out to see if can perform as well as the best electric scooter.

Why We Like It – Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2

A commuter’s companion: the Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 is a lightweight e-scooter for those looking to drop the car and go with something less impactful.

Pros
  • Short charging time
  • Includes cruise control
  • Solid choice for commuting
Cons
  • 15mph max speed is average
  • 220 lbs max load

Performance

If you know where to buy electric scooters, chances are you’ll come across some with good to little performance. Going 15mph isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great either; it’s average, at best. But on the bride side, the Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 is consistent with its speed. There’s enough torque to handle a few choice inclines. Cruise control can limit your speed and push the battery a little bit further. For the earlier version, read our Segway ES1 review.

Safety

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter provides multiple safety features, like LED lights. More importantly, its Smart Battery Management system ensures the safety of the battery cells while also squeezing out more power. It also uses an electric brake and mechanical brake (rear wheel), which provides a good amount of stopping power, but is not quite like a 1000W Zipper Off Road Electric Scooter. For a more advanced model that can reach speeds of up to 18.6 mph and carry a max load of 220lbs, click our Segway Ninebot max electric review. Alternatively, if you want a kick scooter that’s very light to use, check out our Razor A5 Lux review.

Battery Life

The battery could be better. Its 187Wh lithium-ion battery has enough juice to provide 15.5 miles of travel, which translates to about an hour of runtime. On the bright side, it charges incredibly fast, only 3.5 hours! There’s also an opportunity to purchase extra battery capacity or upgrade to a Ninebot Max, ES4 Electric Kick Scooter, or NanRobot D4+.

Durability

This folding electric e scooter took the lightweight and durable route, incorporating high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum alloy for the frame. It’s the same kind of material used by the Xprit folding electric kick scooter. It does provide a lighter profile, but at the cost of a lower max load of 220 lbs. For comparison, the NanRobot D5+ adult electric scooters can handle 330 lbs.

Value

Spending $589 on the Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 is not too far off from what it deserves. You also have to consider, like we did in this Ninebot Segway ES2 review, that this is Segway we’re talking about. Segway has a history of quality machines. If you take into consideration our Segway Ninebot ES2 Electric Scooter review, it’s worth picking up on sale. It’s still better priced than the Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter, however.

Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 Wrap Up

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 isn’t incredibly special, but it’s a solid choice for commuting, at least for lighter individuals given its 220 max load. Yes, 15mph is average, but it can push those speeds for at least an hour, with a short charging time, which means you can let it charge while you work, then take off at the end of the day.
