Critics liked that the Razer Pro Type was a productivity focussed keyboard that could also be used for gaming. They enjoyed typing on it and liked that it was also quiet. Its customizable white backlighting was also hailed, as was its programmability. However, they didn’t appreciate its lack of media controls, poor portability, and missing wrist rest.

our Verdict

The Razer Pro Type keyboard had reviewers delighted that it was suitable for casual gaming and office use. Experts from Rtings liked that the keyboard was largely quiet during typing tests. They also liked how its Razer Orange switches were light and responsive. They confirmed that its typing experience was great and that its white backlighting illuminated its keys well, even in well-lit conditions.
If you’d prefer RGB backlighting, then you might like our Razer Ornata V2 review. Testers also liked that it was programmable, as they had an easy time setting up macros and remapping keys. Buyers from Amazon were content with its build quality and thrilled that they could connect up to four different devices.
Unfortunately, they were not pleased with its lack of dedicated media controls and wrist rest – aspects that the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro, which we’ve covered in our Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro review, addresses so well. They also felt that its large size made it difficult to move around with.

Overview
The Razer Pro Type is a mid-tier wireless mechanical keyboard that was first introduced into the market in late 2020. With a width and depth of 17.4 and 5.2 inches, the Pro Type is a full-size keyboard that has customizable white backlighting and a detachable USB type-C cable that is 5.9ft long.
Its ergonomics are not as great as some of the best keyboards in the industry, but it does have two incline settings and a separate wrist rest. The Pro Type also has wireless versatility since its Bluetooth connection allows for pairing up to three devices simultaneously and a single device through its USB receiver.
This is also the typical standard for the highest-rated wireless keyboards on the market. The keyboard’s inbuilt battery can last about 78 hours when using the wireless dongle, but this extends to 84 hours when using Bluetooth. It also has a latency of 4.8ms with its USB dongle.

Still, the Razer Pro Type has a much lower latency of 4.8ms compared to the MX Keys, with a latency of 18ms. | The Razer Pro Type is a wireless keyboard while the SteelSeries Apex Pro is wired, but the Apex Pro comes with a detachable wrist rest which the Pro Type does not. The Apex Pro also has RGB backlighting while the Razer Pro Type only has white backlighting. The Razer Pro Type has a detachable cable while the one on the Apex Pro is not detachable. |
