Finding the Best TV Antenna is harder than you’d imagine, considering there are dozens of options out there all claiming to be the Best Rabbit Ear Antenna. Today’s combatant is the Philips SDV7114A. Is its 30-mile reception range enough to win you over? Or maybe its 1080p and 4K ready output will.
If you like small and compact devices, you’ll love the Philips SDV7114A. Despite its size, it has a 30-mile reception range, and the ability to capture both UHF and VHF signals.
The Philips HD TV SDV7114A is designed to catch UHF VHF signals, uncompressed and straight to the device itself. This means you’ll have your choice between 1080p and 4K, provided you have a TV that can output in either. However, signal strength won’t be the greatest, especially in dense city areas. Even nearby power-consuming devices can interfere, a similar issue the Philips SDV8201B has, or any TV antenna for that matter.
The Philips HD TV SDV7114A is just as easy to install as the Fosmon HDTV Antenna. Thankfully, most modern TVs these days still have a coax input, which is the only hook-up you need to get the SDV7114A up and running. Plug it in, finger tight, and you’re good to go!
If you were hoping for an extravagant, yet tough piece of equipment, you’re looking in the wrong place. This is nothing but plastic. It’s small in design, measuring 2.75 x 7.75 x 5.75 inches, so you don’t need a lot of dedicated space. It’s also weighted, with rubber feet underneath to keep it from shifting.
The Philips SDV7114A matches the Philips TV Antenna SDV8201B in terms of range, but falls short of the Antop Indoor Rabbit Ears TV Antenna. It can get up to 50 miles, whereas the SDV7114A stops at 30 miles; however, the Philips SDV7114A appears to need help from an amplifier if the tower is more than 20 miles away. There are, however, other TV antennas with impressive ranges such as the U MUST HAVE Amplified HD Digital TV Antenna that offers an 80 mile range.
Even really great TV antennas have their niche use, so the value they provide depends largely on the person and their needs. Taking into consideration its overall performance, it has decent value, but nothing more. At least you’ll have the opportunity to save more, even if you do opt for an amplifier, which you should do anyways for better reception.
Even great antennas have their niche use, so it isn’t surprising that the Philips SDV7114A isn’t a heavy-hitter. What it does provide is local channels for one easy payment, without a monthly bill. And you still get a fair bit of entertainment. You’ll have to come to terms with the inconsistent reception.
