New 2012 Apple iMacs Measure Just 5mm Thin, Quad-core and More

Today, Apple updated a variety of their products, but so far one of the most notable is the iMac, their all-in-one machine.

The new iteration of the desktop computer is a purported 80% thinner than its predecessor.  Slap us silly, because that almost seems impossibly thin!  To put it in perspective the screen is just 5mms – that’s 2.6mm thinner, yes thinner than the iPhone 5.  To accomplish this feat Apple has used some sort of “friction stir welding” along with a gapless display that is laminated together with glass, resulting in a less reflective surface and all together better visual acuity.

These new machines will come in two flavors: a 21.5-inch 1080p model and a 27-inch 2560×1500 model.  The Apple store is still down, so we’re not sure how the confirugations will completely break out, but from our understanding you’ll be able to outfit both sizes with your choice of a quad-core i5 or i7 processor from Intel.  They’ll also include a 720p capable webcam with dual mics, 3TB of storage or a 768GB SSD, a max of 32GB of RAM, and NVIDIA’s GeForce 600-era graphics.

Sorry, no word on price right now, but we’ll update this post as those details comes in.
