While the gaming laptops of today are focused on a slim profile, larger laptops like the MSI GF63 Thin are still a viable choice when it comes to either gaming or productivity assignments. Featured in our category for Best Laptops, the GF63 Thin includes upgradable components, fast performance, and a durable build. Even with issues regarding the battery life and display, the MSI GF63 Thin still makes it into our list for Best Laptop for Seniors.

Why We Like It – MSI GF63 Thin

Durable and still able to give a good performance, the MSI GF63 Thin is a reliable alternative to the more pricey laptops. Upgradable parts means it will last for years to come.

  • Upgradable components
  • Fast performance
  • Durable build
  • Weak battery life
  • Dim display.

Your experience with the MSI GF63 Thin will depend on the model that you purchase. Either you’ll have the Intel Core i5 or the Intel Core i7, both powerful CPUs, only showing a difference when you put them through intensive programming, such as data compiling or 3D rendering. The included NVIDIA GeForce GTX1650 allows you to play virtually any game, even though the GPU is the Max Q version. In terms of performance the MSI GF63 Thin is on par with the Acer Aspire E 15, surpassing it in some regards.

Of course due to the components inside the MSI GF63 Thin, you’ll need quick access to the charger. Gaming laptops in general aren’t meant for long battery life, sacrificing battery longevity for performance. This is definitely not a laptop you’ll be able to carry along all day, at least not without access to an outlet. For those who want a laptop with a more robust battery life, the Toshiba Tecra A50-E is a viable alternative.

The MSI GF63 Thin comes equipped with three USB ports, a USB type C port, ethernet, microphone/headphone, and an HDMI port. An altogether fair port selection, ready for nearly any situation. The icing on the cake would be the addition of a Thunderbolt port, however this isn’t the case.

Build Quality

Although the MSI GF63 Thin has thin in its name, compared to other ultralight laptops the GF63 Thin is not so thin. Still, what it lacks in size it makes up for in durability, feeling strong and compact, the MSI GF63 Thin feels like it can take a hit and keep going. For those who want a slimmer profile, the Apple MacBook Pro 13 is always a good choice.

Without a doubt the most valuable part of the MSI GF63 Thin is the ability to upgrade certain parts. Outside of the CPU and GPU, which are sautered on, it’s easy to upgrade aspects such as the nvme ssd or the RAM. Doing so may void the warranty, but these kinds of upgrades are done well when they have expired, increasing the longevity of the laptop.

MSI GF63 Thin Wrap Up

Able to bring a suitable performance for the price, the MSI GF63 Thin has more than enough power for either a presentation or a gaming session. With upgradable components, a durable build, and fast performance, the GF63 Thin is a stellar choice, even with issues regarding the battery and display.
