Overall, the Mpow X5 earbuds offer great value for money, and their impressive ANC makes them ideal for buyers who prioritize private listening over the inability to customize their already well-balanced sound quality.
Announced in late 2020, the Mpow X5 earbuds are a basic pair of wireless in-ear headphones with an Active Noise Cancelling feature to reduce background noise and a battery capacity of 7 hours.
Its carrying case offers two additional charges for an extra 24 hours of playtime, but there’s no companion app or support for multi-device pairing.
Still, the earbuds can be used while charging (mono mode), while calls, music playback, and volume adjustments can be made through taps to either earbud. Only the best headphones on the market have a similar touch-based control scheme.
That said, the Mpow X5 earbuds have good sound leakage performance, and they ship with three silicone tip options. They also have a built-in microphone, but their recording ability may not be as good as that of the best wireless earbuds.
Still, the X5 earbuds have large 9.2mm drivers for a spacious sound.

our Verdict
The well-built Mpow X5 earbuds offer a neutral sound profile, where the thump and rumbles are highlighted, and even though its ANC blocks out a lot of ambient noise in a noisy environment, there’s no app for sound customization.
The earbuds also offer a deep fit, and because the earbuds have touch controls, they’re pretty comfortable even when pressed. Its control scheme is pretty easy to remember, and it also incorporates voice prompts.
The earbuds are also pretty good at handling audio leakage, even when listening at high volumes.
Its battery life is acceptable, as it offers an impressive continuous battery life of 7.5 hours with ANC on, but its case only offers two additional charges. Its Bluetooth connectivity isn’t also the best, as it doesn’t have multi-device connectivity.

While the Mpow X5 earbuds are a True Wireless variant, the Sony WI-1000XM2 earbuds are connected to a neckband. As a result, the Sony earbuds have an in-line remote housing its physical buttons, while the Mpow X5 earbuds rely on touch controls. Also worth mentioning is that the Sony earbuds support virtual surround sound, have a companion app, and support multi-device pairing; all advantages it has over the Mpow X5 True Wireless earbuds. We’ve covered the Sony earbuds in our Sony WI-1000XM2 review if they’re worth a look.

The Mpow X5 Truly Wireless earbuds feature Active Noise Cancelling, which is missing on the Mpow MDots True Wireless earbuds. However, the MDots earbuds have different-sized stability fins, which the Mpow X5 earbuds do not. The MDots earbuds also take less to charge, but the X5 earbuds have a much longer battery life of 22 hours compared to the 12-hour playtime of the MDots earbuds. Check them out in our Mpow MDots review.

The Mpow X5 Truly Wireless earbuds stand out from the Mpow X3 Truly Wireless earbuds because they have better noise canceling and sound leakage performance. On the other hand, the Mpow X3 earbuds have a shorter charge duration and a power-saving feature that helps conserve battery life. The Mpow X3 earbuds are also smaller in size, and for added comfort, they ship with six pairs of ear tips as opposed to the X5 earbuds, which only ship with three pairs.
