The best headphones are something Logitech knows all about. Adopting ear-expert Ultimate Ear is proving to be a high-performance move for Logitech. The quality of the products has been great so far, if a bit astronomical in price. Although, the Creative Labs MP-250 wireless sport Bluetooth headphones have an affordable price point. At some point, I should drum up some sale-through numbers. Yet despite being in red or black, the quality has been golden.

So it’s with firm confidence and a great deal of schoolboy giddiness, pouring from our ears, that we tackle the flagship offering from Ultimate Ear and Logitech. This is the Logitech UE 9000 wireless Bluetooth over-ear headphones.

With that said, while a great pair of headphones makes all the difference when listening to any audio, to really enhance the experience, you need to read our review of the NU Force Air DAC uWireless system.

The UE 9000 set comes packed with an assortment of goods. You get stylish wireless headphones, an optional cable with in-line mic and media controls, a carrying case, a USB charging cable, a user manual, and a microfiber cloth for keeping the unit free of dust and finger smudges. The carrying case is nowhere near as snazzy as the glossy hard plastic case with the velvety interior, which comes with the UE 900 earbud headphones. But the cables are virtually the same and work like you would expect when not using wireless Bluetooth.

These are an attractive pair of cans. The smoked-colored brushed metal, where the “UE” logo is discretely featured, adds to the distinguished flare. Moreover, I like the color scheme with the black, blues, and chrome highlights. The adjustable headband is all black until you adjust it from the smallest fit to suit a larger head. Then you’re also greeted by a more chrome underneath. The headband itself features a diminished strip of padding. I was worried such an absence of padding lead to discomfort…

Boy was I wrong. The Logitech UE 9000 is a solid unit with decent mass. But it’s not as heavy as other fully wireless offerings. This surely helps with lasting comfort. I love music but I couldn’t continue listening to Jazz, Reggae, Dubstep, Steel Drum, Soca, Samba, Dancehall, and Hip-Hop for the full 20 hours of in-line listening or the 10 hours of wireless Bluetooth listening. But those are the advertised numbers. I did put in a good 4-hours of straight Bluetooth music listening, spliced in with various calls over the Motorola Atrix HD and via Skype. This was done on my computer by way of a Bluetooth dongle.  No complaints from me! The UE 9000 headphones remain comfortable throughout. This is a welcomed change of pace from the Beats by Dre Mixr headphones we tested. Those things just hate ears.

Call quality and music playback are a real treat–and wireless to boot! Looking to go on a city-bound bike ride while grooving to your favorites? No problem the 14dB noise isolation tech is working overtime. I had no problems hearing callers or my beloved music tracks while speeding through the metropolis. Unfortunately, like many other top headphones for podcasting, callers on the receiving end may have a hard time hearing you over the wind rushing through the transmitter. But for music, there is no issue. You’re in for an earful.

Plus the controls for it all are right at your fingertips. On the lower portion of the right earpiece, you will find three small buttons. They function just like the three buttons on the inline mic. All you need is there. Answer, hang up, and mute calls. You can also pause media tracks, skip them or play a previous track. Couple this with your smartphone’s voice communications features and you’re well on your way to enjoying voice-activated wireless media laziness. Musically, aside from partying like a true rockstar, what could be better?

In the end, all I can complain about is the price. But make no mistake that’s about $200 dollars worth of complaining I could do. That’s half the price of these beauties. Sure, they sound fantastic and I can’t say enough about the comfort, quality, and design. However, $400 bucks, even for stellar Bluetooth cans quickly reduces the canorous performance to something akin to nails against a chalkboard.
