The LG UP8000 is an alright budget 4K TV, providing a good enough experience for most entertainment. Its color accuracy is good, with a nice handle on the DCI P3 color gamut and a 4K resolution to take advantage of it. The contrast ratio disappoints, making the HDR experience fall flat.

The LG UP8000, released in 2021, is a budget 4K TV. It’s packing the bare minimum, like fantastic 4K resolution and upscaling lower quality content, good viewing angles, and a great response time. Users even get support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, other than HDR10. Its contrast ratio falls short, which makes its average color accuracy suffer, too. With local dimming its contrast ratio would’ve had a boost, but lacks this feature. However, the contrast ratio is a bit of a letdown, making the HDR experience lacklustre. Plus, without 120Hz, next-gen consoles won’t get the smooth transition they’re looking for.
