This portable ac unit (the model LP1417WSRSM) is the 2nd best LG air conditioner (it’s also one of the best wifi air conditioner models on the market!). With 14,000 BTU of cooling power, two fan modes, a cooling area of up to 400 sq ft, and a low price of $379.99, these air conditioners are the perfect option if you’re looking to upgrade! If you’re still skeptical, read on to find out more about the LP1417WSRSM model and how it compares to other best-selling air conditioners.

Why We Like It – LG LP1417WSRSM

The LG LP1417WSRSM is a 14,000 BTU, wi-fi controllable smart portable air conditioner. You can control it from anywhere using LG ThinQ, and it even works with both Amazon Alexa & Google Assistant for voice control!

  • This Portable Air Conditioner Operates At A Relatively Quiet 54 dB
  • Air Filter Is Washable/Reusable
  • Has An Auto Evaporation System
  • Only Has 2 Fan Speed Settings
  • Not Available New

Although this portable AC model wouldn’t be suitable for big rooms (use the LG LW1816ER if you’re trying to cool a large room!), it still packs a decent cooling punch with a rating of 14,000 BTU. Compare that to its predecessor, the LG LP1415WXRSM model which also features the same 14,000 BTU rating. Now this LG LP1417WSRSM unit features two fan speeds and 2-way air deflection. You won’t find it very distracting during operation, as it runs relatively quiet at only 54 dB on high (52 dB on low). It also has a built-in timer, an auto-restart feature, and comes with a remote control. The auto-evaporation system helps reduce the amount of maintenance you have to do periodically, which can also be found in our Honeywell MN10ESSWW review.

Energy Efficiency

Sadly, LG did not publish an Energy Guide rating for this model, so we had to look at the specs to find the details (if you want a model with available energy efficiency details, check out our LG LW1017ERSM review). The LP1417WSRSM is rated for 115v at 60 Hz. It has a CEC Cooling Current (A) of 12.0, a DOE Cooling Current (A) of 11.4, a CEC Cooling Power (W) of 1,370, & a DOE Cooling Power (W) of 1,250. Another very energy-efficient model is the LG LP1419IVSM model which has a dual inverter compressor that allows it to use up to 40% less electricity than non-inverter units.

Like many other portable air conditioners, the LG LP1417WSRSM has a removable & washable air filter. This is good because it prevents the unnecessary cost of replacing a filter! Sadly, this model doesn’t appear to have a warning light on the unit to alert you when the air filter needs cleaning, so you will have to keep track of this yourself. When you set the AC, you will need to use the included 1.5m hose to allow the unit to expel exhaust outside.

This unit (like most these days) features a plastic front that’s primarily white. On the top of the front is an air vent; moving towards the back, you’ll find the AC controls. It has a variety of push buttons along with a small LCD display. Unlike the front, the back of the unit is a light grey color. Thanks to the fixed chassis, we are pretty confident that this portable AC unit will stand up to regular use, although you should take care not to damage the exhaust hose.

Unlike many other AC units we review, the LG LP1417WSRSM is only available “renewed”, not brand new. It’s sold through the Amazon Renewed store though, so it does come with a couple of benefits. For starters, you get free shipping (although sadly returns aren’t free). You also get customer service from Amazon, which means your purchase is eligible to be replaced within 90 days if you’re not satisfied with it. Amazon will also refund your money if you’d prefer to replace it. The LP1417WSRSM costs $379.99 by itself, but you can also get protection plans starting at $33.99.

LG LP1417WSRSM Wrap Up

Overall, the LG LP1417WSRSM seems like a pretty good buy for a “renewed” product (if you’d prefer a new AC unit, check out the LG LP1419IVSM instead!). We think $379.99 seems a bit high for a used model, but you do get the Amazon warranty, so at least you can buy (or return) your unit with confidence! If you’re looking to cool a small room, the LP1417WSRSM could be a good option for you.
