The Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball mouse is comfortable and ergonomic with an extended wrist rest. It offers responsive scrolling and cursor movement but a disappointingly high click latency. This mouse is best for office tasks, but the trackball learning curve may turn some away.

Overview

First released way back in late 2009, the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball is a low-end ambidextrous design trackball mouse that boasts four different DPI modes for office work and productivity purposes. Unlike the best computer mouse list, this is a strictly wired model and doesn’t have wireless connectivity. If you need a similar wireless computer mouse, then make sure to take a look at our Kensington Expert Wireless Trackball Mouse review. It also boasts a 1600 DPI optical sensor with a 125 Hz polling rate for precise cursor movement.

If you need an even higher DPI for higher sensitivity, then our Logitech ERGO M575 review would be worth a visit. You can customize the 72337 Trackball’s three programmable function buttons using the KensingtonWorks app, but the DPI settings can only be changed using the physical switch. And the mouse features a detachable palm rest with a plastic grip for comfort.

our Verdict

The Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball mouse is a well-built, comfortable mouse for most hand sizes thanks to its ergonomic trackball design and extended wrist rest. It features a medium-sized trackball that rolls smoothly for accurate cursor placement and a unique scroll ring that surprisingly works well once you get used to it. The mouse also provides just two buttons, but both are customizable using the user-friendly companion software.

This Orbit trackball mouse offers four DPI settings up to 1600 DPI and a 125Hz polling rate. Unfortunately, it also offers a disappointing click latency of 42 ms during testing. All in all, this trackball mouse is a great choice for office and productivity needs, but if you’re looking for the [best ergonomic gaming mouse](https://www.gadgetreview.com/best-ergonomic-gaming-mouse), you should consider other options.

While the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball is a strictly wired product, the Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball, as the name suggests, is an ergonomic wireless mouse. However, the Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball’s ergonomic comfort design forces it to strictly be a right-handed product, whereas the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball boasts an ambidextrous design. And the Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless only has three DPI presets. In contrast, the Kensington 72337 Trackball features four.

Unlike the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball’s award-winning scroll ring design, the Logitech MX ERGO only features a standard stepped scroll wheel with no click-free scrolling mode. However, the Logitech MX ERGO wireless mouse does have a significantly better overall build quality when put against the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball. And using the Logitech G Hub app, you can customize six of the nine buttons on the Logitech MX ERGO, while the Orbit model only has three programmable buttons.

The Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball has three customizable buttons that you can configure using the KensingtonWorks companion software. The GameBall Mouse, on the other hand, doesn’t have an official software for customizations. And the Kensington Orbit 72337 Trackball features a significantly more precise physical scroll ring that actually rotates, unlike the GameBall Mouse’s fixed and glossy touch scroll ring. In addition, the Kensington Orbit 72337 has a much better build quality than the GameBall.
