JBL OnBeat Lightning Venue is the First iPhone 5 Compatible Speaker Dock

We’re about to be hit with a tidal wave of Lightning compatible products.  We’ve seen a few trickle out from the likes of Belkin and Scosche, but believe us when we tell you that there will be plenty to choose from in the next 15-30 days thanks to money hungry companies who are looking to cash in on Apple’s newest proprietary interface.

And one of those companies is JBL.  They’re actually the first company to boast the first Lightning Dock compatible speaker systems. The flagship of the two is the OnBeat Lightning Venue.  The name leaves something to be desired, but nevertheless built-in to this speaker system is a tray that slides out and features a Lightning dock, allowing you to charge and playback music from your iPad Mini, iPhone 5, 7th gen iPad Nano, and 5th generation iPod Touch.

Inside are 4 speakers, or transducers as JBL calls them.  Two of them address the mids and the highs, while the remaining two handle the lows – it’s all powered by 30 watts of juice.  Needless to say you can charge the aforementioned iOS devices while docked, or if you so opt you can connect to the OnBeat Lightning Venue using Bluetooth for a wireless experience – sorry, no Airplay.  For those with Android devices, you’ll have to reach to the aux input and a 3.5mm headphone cord.

The JBL OnBeat Lightning Venue is available now direct or from major retailers for $199.99.
