ICEdot iPhone Crash Sensor Automatically Places a Call if You Fall of Your Skateboard (video)

Fall of your bike, snowboard, or skateboard and usually someone will come to your aid.  That is provided you’ve got some cohorts in tow.  Fly solo, though, and you could remain trapped in a ditch, or drainage hole for days.

The ICEdot is a small sensor that attaches to your helmet.  It can detect motion, changes in forces and impacts.  In the event of a crash, the ICEdot, which pairs with your iPhone via Bluetooth, will automatically initiate an emergency countdown. If you’re unable to stop it, as in you’ve succumb to your injuries, and it reaches zero, it will place a call and/or text for help and send along your last recorded GPS coordinates.  It’s a simple yet effective idea.

However, there are some caveats.  You’ll of course need service for the system to work, and anyone that traverses some of the most dangerous terrains knows this can sometimes be few and far between.  And while they havent’ stated any specifics on battery life, it will be a concern, though a nightly charge can probably negate this concern.

Nevertheless, the ICEdot is a fantastic idea for any aspiring extreme athlete.
