For the price, the HP OMEN Photon is good for light gaming and office work, as it offers customizable settings and decent build quality.

But it lacks hand support, so those with specific grip and hand size requirements might want to look elsewhere.

Overview

The HP Omen Photon is a top-tier gaming mouse released in 2019 as the brand’s high-feature model. Connectivity is through a USB receiver or USB cable, and it features an e-sport grade PixArt PAW 3335 optical sensor that ranges from 100 to 16000 dpi.

Like most popular computer mouse models, it has a low click latency of 0.2 ms and RGB backlighting, with 16.8 million programmable LED color combinations. Its ambidextrous design allows for removing and swapping finger rests plus side buttons and supports claw-, palm-, and fingertip grips.

Its eleven buttons, including the left- and right-click buttons, a clickable scroll wheel that tilts, as well as two dpi buttons, can be customized using the OMEN Command Center. It also has a rechargeable battery that offers up to 50 hours of run time on a full charge. Check our best gaming mouse list to see more options.

What Is Not on the Box

What the brand doesn’t always tell you…

our Verdict

The HP Omen Photon Wireless mouse has a stable build quality and 50-hour battery life. The mouse has a fast command response, as tests confirm the mouse’s.2 ms click latency, Design-wise, the mouse is modular and fits both right and left-hand grips.

However, as you begin shaking the mouse, it can flex and rattle, making it less ideal for serious gamers.

The mouse delivers on its promise of customization and performance, as it has RGB lighting, a clickable scroll wheel, and two DPI buttons, but the shell lacks adequate hand support and mouse feet that could glide smoother.

Gamers seeking precise CPI adjustments may want to look elsewhere, as the adjustments can only be made in increments of 100. Overall, the HP Omen Photon Wireless mouse is suitable for general office work and light gaming.

The Glorious Model O Minus Wired Mouse is strictly wired, using an undetachable braided cable with a USB connector for connectivity, while the HP Omen Photon is wireless. The HP Photon has a resolution of 16000 dpi, but the O Minus only reaches a maximum of 12000 dpi. Additionally, the shell of the O Minus has a honeycomb pattern which contributes to its light weight of 0.13 lb, whereas that of the Photon, which is a solid shell, is 0.31 lb.

Just like the HP Omen Photon, the Lenovo Legion M600 Wireless Gaming Mouse has an ambidextrous design with a pair of buttons on each side. However, the Legion M600 has no finger rests, and its parts are not removable or swappable like the Photon. The Legion does offer a better gaming time of 200 hours when fully charged compared to the 50 hours promised by the Photon. Both mice have two RGB lighting zones.

Furthermore, the Vector is strictly wired, using USB for connectivity, while the Photon uses a USB receiver and can also use a USB cable.
