Red Light Inspection

Most modern hoverboards feature a red LED light that is used to alert the owner to a wide range of potential problems with the board itself. These lights flash in regular patterns, each with its own meaning.

  1. One light flashing typically indicates loose wiring somewhere within the internal circuitry.
  2. If the light blinks two or three times in a pattern, it may indicate a circuit board issue. In most cases, circuit board issues arise from water damage.
  3. Lights that blink four or five times in a repeating pattern typically indicate a hoverboard motor malfunction.
  4. A light that blinks six times in a row generally alerts owners to a dead or faulty battery.
  5. If your light blinks seven or eight times in a row, your gyroscopes or internal sensors are having some trouble.

Calibration and Sensor Reset

If your hoverboard is feeling sluggish, movement-wise, it may be time to perform a calibration test and undergo the sensor reset procedure. The steps that make up these two processes vary depending on make and model, though there are typically some commonalities. Make sure your hoverboard is fully charged and powered down, then hold down the power button until you hear a beep. Allow your board to complete the procedure, then power it down after a minute or so. You should be good to go.
