Hoverboards are a fantastic way to get out in the fresh air and travel from place to place. These self-balancing scooters typically include a robust lithium battery pack that can be charged when not in use. Some may be wondering how long a hoverboard battery last, and we are here to provide an answer.
Hoverboard lithium-ion battery packs generally allow for anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour of use before needing a recharge. This depends on a number of factors, including the strength of the motor, weather conditions during rides, the various wheel sizes, the quality of the battery pack itself, and just how long you have been using the board. Generally speaking, the top hoverboard battery will have an overall lifespan of one to two years before needing a replacement. The battery is a vital part of the hoverboard. Cheap, low-quality batteries were a reason there were fire risks in houses with hoverboards when they were still a new offering. Now, however, hoverboards are much safer, and some people use them at their job, just make sure that it is OSHA approved for your particular industry and job.

Here are some ways people can squeeze the most time out of the lithium-ion batteries that accompany the most popular hoverboards.
Riders should always quickly check on the status of the lithium-ion battery before taking their board out for a spin. A red light will show next to the battery life indicator when the lithium battery is low. If that light is activated, you are going to want to plug the charger into the hoverboard and into a power outlet. It is also possible to charge your self-balancing scooter without a charger if you don’t have access to one. Some hoverboards offer a series of colored lights to indicate a variety of battery status options. Red means a severely low battery. Orange means a battery that is lower than average. Green means it is charged and good to go. Additionally, know your hoverboard’s battery voltage to better understand its capabilities.

Adhere to the Weight Limit
All hoverboards include a recommended maximum weight limit. These maximum weight limits can range from 185 pounds to 300 pounds or more. While you can technically still ride a board if you are over the max weight limit, it will impact overall battery life. As a note, this weight recommendation includes both the rider’s body weight and whatever items they are carrying on their person. Hoverboard battery chargers come in a number of different types with varying voltage levels and connectors. Boards usually ship with a purpose-built charger that plays nice with the integrated lithium-ion battery pack, but the same cannot be said for third-party devices. If you are purchasing a third-party battery charger, be sure it can be used by your hoverboard. Otherwise, battery life and overall battery longevity could be severely impacted.

STAT: Most hoverboard batteries can be charged around 500 times before needing to be replaced.
