The title of the “best router” should not always be reserved for conventional routers. There are certain other categories of routers that focus more on different aspects of a router. For example, the HooToo TripMate Titan HT TM05 focuses on the storage aspect more. And that makes it a contender for the “best travel router” title in its own category.

Why We Like It – HooToo TripMate Titan

Wi-Fi-based file transfer hubs are hard to come by nowadays. However, the HooToo TripMate Titan is precisely that, in a portable form. This might already sound fantastic to some, but there’s more. It even comes with a pretty massive built-in battery that provides a very long battery life.

  • 10400mAH battery
  • 300 Mbps data transfer rate
  • Support for multiple storage devices
  • Single band 2.4 GHz Wi Fi

The HT TM05 supports a data transfer rate of up to 300 Mbps. It isn’t as good as the GL.iNet GL-E750, but for actual data transfer and photo backups, it’s more than enough. And the fact that this wireless router has this kind of high data transfer speed while being portable speaks volumes about the usability of this thing. Speaking of portability, for two more portable units, you might want to read our Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 review and our Google Wifi Mesh router review.

The range of the HT TM05 wireless router is absolutely fantastic for a travel router. Just like the GL.iNET GL-AR150, it only has single band Wi Fi, but don’t let that fact make your buying decision. It supports the 300 Mbps fast data transfer speeds over the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band only. The Netgear XR700 Review is worth checking out too.

It is truly meant to be used as travel equipment to back up your photos on your external hard drives. So, just like the Linksys EA8300 AC2200 MU-MIMO, it’s pretty well made. All the ports are pretty much covered with a flap, so there’s very little chance of water damage. Basically, your connected hard drive will give out before this thing does.

Ease Of Use

If you have multiple external SSDs and hard drives connected to this thing using a hub, you can easily manage them. And there’s simultaneous media sharing too, meaning you can transfer the same files at once to up to five connected hard drives using this travel router. On top of that, the HT TM05 wireless router also comes with Chromecast support. So, you can cast your pictures to the big screen to share with your whole family after coming back.

The value aspect of the HT TM05 travel router is fairly good, considering its good performance. Good routers that have the sole purpose of transferring files to hard drives are pretty hard to come by nowadays. But with this thing, at least you have a good option in the market.

HooToo TripMate Titan Wrap Up

The HooToo TripMate Titan wireless router is pretty unique in the grand scheme of things. And you should be able to find it for pretty cheap nowadays, considering its age.
