Why We Like It – Hannibal Review

Hannibal is a great mystery thriller on Amazon Prime Video. This series revolves around detectives Will Graham, played by Hugh Dancy, and Laurence Fishburne starring as Jack Crawford. These detectives are on the move to catch the serial killer Hannibal Lecter, played by Mads Mikkelsen. This is an intense series filled with some gruesome, gorey situations that will keep anyone either anticipating them or regretting to see them.

  • Gruesome Gory Scenery
  • Intense build up
  • Distasteful for those with a weak stomach

Throughout this series, there should be notable mentions said to Hugh Dancy for his spectacular role as the awkward timid investigator. In addition, Mads Mikkelsen plays a crazy good Hannibal, he definitely is a significant switch from the Anthony Hopkins version. The series includes the infamous tooth fairy as well as performances by Clarice Starling as Dr. Alana Bloom. The series is unique in its production as they included a new character by the name of Bedelia Du Maurier; She is played by Gillian Anderson.

Season one began pretty well as the scenes in the series mostly left me feeling anxious at every turn as the detective weighed in on a crime scene. The eerie music in combination with the gruesome murders throughout the series sure keeps hair in the back of my neck standing tall. It really feels like a movie quality similar to the Hannibal rising film. So if these murder mysteries are a little too extreme for you, a better choice may be The Boys, or Babylon 5.

The first season of Hannibal started well because the manipulation of the FBI by Hannibal Lecter is masterful and entertaining to watch. From what I’ve skimmed on the overview of the next seasons, it is only going to get more insane. This is a good series to watch, and three seasons is nothing to catch up on. If you are a huge gore fan, this show will take you for a ride. If you stomach can’t take it, maybe this isn’t a winner for you.
