When Apple unveiled iPhone OS 4 a couple months ago, they didn’t exactly publicize the fact that users with 2G iPhones would not be able to upgrade their OS, due to slower processor speeds. One annoyed user did get a personal reply from Steve Jobs, but it was a curt “No, Sorry” to all the people who have stuck with the iPhone since 2007 and didn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade.
Now, a group of hackers have announced that they’re working on bringing the iPhone OS 4 to the 2G. Scant few details are known right now, but the group has a website where they say they already have a beta working. They’ve released an image purporting to show OS 4.0 on the 2G. Personally, I think the image looks photoshopped. But the idea doesn’t seem impossible. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s true or not.
