While on the hunt for the Best Air Purifier, you might be wondering whether you should be searching for the best plug in air purifier or the best UV air purifier. Well, why not both? The GermGuardian AC5350B boasts incredible air cleaning capabilities and is customizable to fit your needs.

Why We Like It – GermGuardian AC5350B

The GermGuardian AC5350B Air Purifier is a strong showing for Germ Guardian. The carbon filter, in combination with the HEPA filter locks and traps anything from large pet dander to small microns and completely destroys them using effective UV Light Technology.

  • UV Light Kills Contaminants
  • 5 Fan Speeds
  • Captures Virtually Everything
  • Large Power Consumption
  • Filter Replacement Limited to Germ Guardian
  • Loud

The Germ Guardian AC5350B Air Filter employs an activated carbon filter (it’s actually a charcoal filter) alongside a pre filter to remove large airborne particles. Afterwards, a UV bulb with UV C Light Technology kills the small and large particles. If you like UV air cleaning technology, you can also check out the GermGuardian GG1000.

GermGuardian AC5350B Air Purifiers are rated to clean a room of about 165 square feet. This may not sound like much, but it’s actually pretty average as far as plug-in air purifiers go. Check out our Hamilton Beach 04386A Air Purifier review if you’re curious. Unfortunately, the AC5350B isn’t energy star certified and runs at an enormous 60 watts. You’ll be paying a lot for air quality with this purifier.

The Germ Guardian AC5350B True HEPA Air purifier uses, well, True HEPA Filters to capture 99.97% of microscopic allergens and other airborne contaminants like pet dander mold spores and the like. You can also check out the Germ Guardian AC4825E for another example of effective HEPA Filter usage. The CADR rating on the AC5350B is 114 Dust/ 108 Smoke/ 127 pollen (cfm).

The AC5350B isn’t exactly heavy at 11 pounds, but it is heavier than most other plug-in air purifiers that we’ve seen. Be aware that Germ Guardian advises that you only use Germ Guardian replacement filters when it comes time too (which should be around the 6-8 month mark). You can use other filters if you need to, I guess, but the effectiveness will severely drop if it’s not Germ Guardian.

The AC5350B possesses an incredible five fan speeds so you can have the correct setting for every situation. And at $135.00 it’s a lot more affordable than most other large-scale plug-in air purifiers, believe it or not. However, be aware that the unit can get very loud when on the highest setting. On the lowest it’s about the same as some rustling leaves, but that’s still high for the lowest possible setting.

GermGuardian AC5350B Wrap Up

The power of the AC5350B comes at a price. Literally, because it consumes a vast amount of energy. Figuratively, because it can get loud even on the lowest settings. But if you’re willing to accept this then you’ll find a powerful air cleaning companion in the GermGuardian AC5350B.
