If your idea of the best air purifier is one that’s the best whole house air purifier, the Germ Guardian AC4150BLCA isn’t what we’d choose. No, it’s better at cleaning the air within a small room, like a living room or child’s bedroom. Despite its small stature, it has surprisingly good performance and excellent value.
For cleaning the air of living rooms or a child’s bedroom, the Germ Guardian AC4150BLCA is more than up for the task, handling 75 sq ft like a pro, and even projecting pictures for little children to enjoy.
You’ll have three speeds available to flip between: low, medium, and high. Its performance and power are directly tied to which speed you use, up to 45 watts, but depending on the time of day, you might want to lower it. In fact, on High, it can reach decibels of 60, so perhaps set it to high when you initially get it, then lower it to Medium or Low for regular use.
If you stick the Germ Guardian into a big room, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. The room shouldn’t be any bigger than 75 to maybe 80 sq feet, or else you’ll see a drop in its performance. Anything bigger than that, and you might as well go with the Coway Airmega 400. If you spend a lot of time in your car, you may want to check out the Frieq Car Air Purifier review.
So you’ve placed it in a smaller-sized room. What’s it going to do? For starters, its True HEPA filter UVC sanitizer and charcoal filter combo are tackling most tiny particles, such as pet dander (and hair), pollen, dust, smoke residue and odor, UV sanitizer, dust mite allergens, and chemical vapors. It’ll usually get captured if it’s as small as 0.3 microns, leaving behind fresher, safer air to breathe. The Alen BreatheSmart Classic Large Room Air Purifier has models that split those functions apart. You can also go through our Germ Guardian AC4825 review if you want a compact purifier that uses a UV-C light to kill bacteria. Other fine Germ Guardian units include the GermGuardian AC9200WCA and the GermGuardian GG1000.
At first glance, it may look like a speaker, similar to the Blueair Blue Pure 411—but don’t be fooled. The tabletop tower you’re looking at is still an air purifier. Its non-threatening design and finish show a fairly good, yet premium look and durability.
To get an air purifier that performs that well, at just under $70, is a godsend, and cheaper than the Oransi Max HEPA Air Purifier; however, you also have to consider the extra costs. You’ll need to occasionally pick up replacement filters. And any repairs should be made with genuine Guardian Technologies replacement parts for utmost efficiency. Since it has gentle white noise and a Twinkle Moon Stars Sleepy Safari projector, it’s perfect in a kid’s room.
Germ Guardian AC4150BLCA Night Light Projector Air Purifiers are great workhorses in smaller rooms—especially for a kid’s room, but don’t let that stop you from using it in your living room (space permitted). Sure, its highest speed setting is a bit noisy, but leaving it at Medium will do just fine. After all, a value like this is hard to come by.
