Why We Like It – GE JNM3163RJSS

The GE JNM3163RJSS 1.6 cu ft Over-the-Range Microwave provides power, options, and extra space with its power level settings, increased cu ft, and detailed frosting options.

Pros
  • All necessary features for general use
  • Fits above your stove
  • Brand recognition
Cons
  • Expensive for its performance

Performance

The GE JNM3163RJSS does a great job cooking food evenly, though some places will be colder depending on the thickness of the food. That’s pretty common in every microwave. Its wattage is 1000, including 10 adjustable power levels on the right. Since the GE JNM3163RJSS can be placed over your stove, it’s built with a vent fan to circulate steam and such when cooking. It also includes a charcoal filter which will help scrub the air of pollutants, providing much better air when it’s released.

Design

The GE JNM3163RJSS is a rather large appliance compared to the Toshiba EM925A5A-SS Microwave Oven and AmazonBasics Microwave, but its girth is intentional. There needs to be extra room for its recirculating venting system. Furthermore, the GE JNM3163RJSS is more at home when it’s fastened above your stove, not on the countertop.

The GE JNM3163RJSS is rather sleek looking with its stainless steel finish and would look fantastic over a GE Profile color stainless steel oven. On the right-hand side you’ll notice a set of quick buttons underneath Convenience Cooking. There you can alter the time defrost, cook time, or reheat food, among other features.

Value

The value behind the GE model JNM3163RJSS wavers when compared to other main stream manufacturers. Take for example, the Panasonic NN-SN966S. Both are manufactured by reputable companies, but the Panasonic microwave is $80 cheaper. Furthermore, the NN-SN966S easily outperforms the microwave when it comes to power levels, features, and size. What the GE JNM3163RJSS has going for it is a much higher cu ft capacity, air vents, and it being an over-the-range microwave. With that said, you’re still getting a fine product either way.

GE JNM3163RJSS Wrap Up

While the pricing for the GE JNM3163RJSS is on the higher side, you’re still getting in return a great microwave. It’s GE so you know its build quality is better than the majority of over-the-range microwaves. It’s got all the features needed for general use, and saves space when fitted above your stove.
