If you’re in the market for the best home scanner, that’s also portable, you can look at the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i. The scanner may not look threatening, but this tiny tike scans near perfect detail; it doesn’t matter the document: receipts, important pages, business cards—it can do all three. And with such small dimensions, it fits right at home on a small desk without sacrificing space. It is the best option for those who own a top-tier printer than lacks scanning capabilities, or have slow scanning speeds.

Why We Like It – Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i

  • Scans in both color and black and white
  • Compatible with Windows and MacOS
  • Great quality scans for price range
  • Limited to a 10-page document feeder

The Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i performed really well for a portable scanner. Documents came out looking near identical to the original documents. Scanning receipts occasionally left a bit of smudging, but you’ll only notice that if you’re looking for it; the text was still clear. As for color, again, in the same ballpark. The accuracy of color was near perfect, only being a shade lighter than that of the original document.

With that said, its document feeder is severely lacking, only handling 10 pages at a time. Scan speed is solid. It can handle about 12 to 13 pages per minute—almost twice as fast as the Doxie Go SE—but after 10 pages, you need to load up the document feeder again.

This particular document scanner is indeed portable. It only weighs 3 pounds, which is a similar weight to most laptops, but heavier than the Brother DS-620. Its dimensions are very compact, with dimensions being 11.18 x 3.9 x 3.03 inches. That is by no means bulky and can easily fit inside a portable bag, or fit well on a desk without taking too much space.

The Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i is powered with a USB cable, specifically USB bus power cable, which is pretty nice considering most people carry a USB power adapter with them these days for their smartphones, or tablets. This compounds its portability by providing an access point anywhere.

For the price you’re paying, you are getting a quality product by an easily recognizable brand. Fujitsu really knows their scanners. Having 600 dpi color resolution—on par with the Brother ADS-1250W—is excellent quality if you need to reproduce colored copies, business cards, and receipts And with it being an automatic document feeder, you can sit back and let the scanner do its job.

On top of that, the Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i comes with excellent software. ScanSnap Manager software comes bundled with the scanner, providing additional options to choose for your files, and even a really accurate word identifier. Lastly, its compatibility with both major operating systems—Mac and Windows—leaves it available for most people.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i Wrap Up

We can confidently recommend the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i considering its excellent performance in both accurate scanning and color recreation. However, the S1300i fits well on someone’s personal desk, not as an office’s only scanner. Its document feeder is automatic, but only holds 10 pages at a time. With that said, anyone who uses a Mac or Windows can take advantage of the S1300i’s superb quality scans, and software.
