Overview

First released back in early 2019, the Fnatic Clutch 2 is a high-end wired gaming mouse that boasts a contorted shape and textured rubber side grips for ergonomics and comfort during long periods of gaming.

But unlike some of the best-rated computer mouse options available in its range, this model is strictly right-handed and doesn’t have an ambidextrous shape. And unlike many of the best gaming mouse models, it doesn’t support wireless connectivity out of the box and weighs 100 grams.

If you need a lighter mouse for FPS games and competitive esports titles, then make sure to take a look at our G-Wolves Hati M Classic Mouse review. The Clutch features a total of six different buttons (including the clickable scroll wheel), and you can program the button bindings as well as the RGB lighting using the Fnatic OP app. And it sports an adjustable 12000 DPI optical sensor.

What Is Not on the Box

What the brand doesn’t always tell you…

our Verdict

With subtle RGB and a minimalist, rattle-free build, the Fnatic Clutch 2 is attractive and boasts high durability. It features a tactile clickable scroll wheel, easy-to-actuate Omron switches, and smooth Teflon glide pads surrounding the Pixart optical sensor, ensuring smooth tracking. Fnatic’s OP software impresses with its simple interface, user-friendly design, and compact 200 MB size.

However, the right-click button is loud, and while the wire doesn’t drag excessively during gameplay, just like the Endgame Gear XM1, it feels slightly bumpy. At 97g, it strikes a good balance between weight and stability, and the low 4.5 ms input latency is suitable for competitive games. The Fnatic Clutch 2 is aimed at right-handed users with large hands, accommodating both palm and claw grips.

While the Fnatic Clutch 2 is a strictly wired gaming mouse, the Fnatic BOLT is a wireless gaming mouse that supports wireless connectivity both through Bluetooth and through a USB receiver. But despite being a wireless gaming mouse, the Fnatic BOLT still has a surprisingly lower input latency of just 2 ms in comparison to the Fnatic Clutch 2’s 4.5 ms input delay. And even though it features a built-in rechargeable battery, at just 69 grams, the Fnatic BOLT is also surprisingly significantly lighter than the 100-gram Fnatic Clutch.

Despite both being wired gaming mice, only the Razer Viper Mini features a 1.9-meter-long braided cable, whereas the Fnatic Clutch 2 has a similarly long non-braided rubberized USB cable for wired connectivity. And the Razer Viper Mini sports an ambidextrous shape, while the Fnatic Clutch 2 is a strictly right-handed mouse. However, the Fnatic Clutch 2 does have a much more accurate sensor technology (Pixart optical sensor) when put against the Razer Viper Mini’s 8500 DPI optical sensor.

The Fnatic Clutch 2 wired gaming mouse features a significantly better 12000 DPI Pixart optical sensor when compared against the MSI CLUTCH GM30’s 6200 DPI Paw-3327 optical sensor. And the Fnatic Clutch 2 has a much more accurate sensor as well, as the MSI CLUTCH GM30 tends to suffer from jittering at the max DPI sensitivity. However, the MSI CLUTCH GM30 does have an ambidextrous shape. In contrast, the Clutch 2 is a strictly right-handed mouse. And the MSI GM30 has a much better overall build quality.

The Fnatic Gear Clutch Optical Pro gaming mouse is the direct predecessor to the Fnatic Clutch 2, and the manufacturer has made several improvements to the newer model. The newer Fnatic Clutch 2 features a significantly better 12000 DPI optical sensor when compared to the older Fnatic Gear Clutch Optical Pro’s 5000 DPI Pixart 3310 optical sensor. And at 100 grams, the newer model is slightly lighter than the 116-gram Optical Pro. But the Optical Pro does have a total of seven buttons for games.
